Position: Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Medical Director
Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Medical Director, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) plays a vital role in ensuring the highest standard of care for clients entering our Substance Abuse and Mental Health facility. This individual will facilitate a seamless transition from inquiry to admission, ensuring a supportive, professional, and compassionate experience for clients and their families. The LVN is expected to uphold our core values of Commitment, Honesty, Service, Respect, and Integrity while guiding clients on their recovery journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review pre-admission assessments, including clinical, financial, and qualification criteria, to determine appropriate admission.
  • Coordinate with the CEO, COO, and Clinical Director to ensure all admissions align with program requirements.
  • Communicate with clients, family members, and referring professionals during the pre-admission process.
  • Accurately enter assessments and admissions data into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Ensure a smooth and timely admission process while maintaining a high level of client and family satisfaction.
  • Provide on-call availability for nights and weekends as needed (to be discussed upon hire).
  • Perform intake, admission, and discharge assessments, including medical evaluations and CIWA assessments as needed.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate nursing documentation in compliance with facility standards and state regulations.
  • Oversee and document client self-administration of prescribed medication.
  • Collaborate with physicians and pharmacies to address medical concerns and medication management.
  • Input doctor's orders and medication protocols into the EMR system.
  • Train and supervise Resident Advisors on detox procedures and medication protocols.
  • Measure and record vital signs, administer TB tests, and follow physician orders.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure the proper stocking of medical supplies and over-the-counter medications.
  • Conduct and document urine analysis (UA) and breathalyzer tests.
  • Lead educational group sessions on medication management, hygiene, withdrawal symptoms, overdose awareness, and related topics within the scope of nursing practice.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations, DHCS, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Uphold professional ethics, confidentiality, and healthy boundaries with clients and staff.
  • Attend in-service training, educational workshops, and staff meetings.
  • Provide compassionate, professional, and responsive client care, contributing to overall recovery success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Active California Nursing License (LVN).
  • Minimum of three years of nursing experience (experience in a sub-acute or residential substance abuse facility preferred).
  • Knowledge of detox medications, withdrawal symptoms, and addiction treatment protocols.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA, DHCS, and Joint Commission regulations.
  • Compliance: First Aid/CPR certification is required. Ability to regularly pass a drug screening and background check. TB testing annually.


Working Conditions:

  • Work primarily in the residential treatment facility, including client living areas, common areas and offices.
  • Occasional travel may be required for off-site appointments and activities.
  • Shifts may vary, including evening, overnight, weekend, or holiday shifts.
  • Interaction with clients in various stages of recovery and with different needs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift or move light objects
  • Ability to stay awake during shift
