Salary Range $140,000 - $170,000 (pay will be determined based on experience, preferred qualifications, and education)

SUMMARY

The Nurse Administrator is the senior clinical and operational leader of the freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in Commack. This role provides overall leadership and accountability for patient care quality, regulatory compliance, operational performance, financial stewardship, and staff engagement, while ensuring alignment with all Stony Brook standards, policies, and strategic goals.

The Nurse Administrator operates with a high degree of autonomy and partners with the Medical Director to ensure safety, efficiency and high quality care.

Job Duties & Essential Functions

  • Directs day-to-day operations of the freestanding ASC, including staffing models, patient throughput, room utilization, and procedural efficiency. Collaborates with surgical faculty, anesthesia leadership, and Hospital leadership to optimize block utilization, scheduling, on-time starts, and case mix.
  • Ensures effective coordination across pre-operative assessment, intra-operative services, post-anesthesia care, and discharge processes.
  • Oversees equipment readiness, supply chain coordination, and ensures needed case competency.
  • Provides leadership for recruitment, competency management, and professional development of clinical and support staff. Supervises clinical leadership and ensures compliance with all HR and regulatory standards.
  • Serves as a key liaison between the ASC, hospital perioperative services, faculty practices, ambulatory leadership, and administration.
  • Maintains departmental policies, procedures, and documentation to meet changing needs of department, physicians, and patients. Ensures all compliance to all other Hospital policy standards.
  • Leads accreditation readiness activities, regulatory surveys, and corrective action plans.
  • Monitors quality, productivity, and utilization metrics and implements performance improvement strategies as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed to practice in New York State.
  • Seven (7) years of nursing experience with at least three (5) years of supervisory or administrative experience in Perioperative or Procedural Environment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage operations, and drive performance improvement


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience with ambulatory surgery operations and regulatory compliance
  • Advanced nursing degree.
  • Experience with triage.
  • Knowledge of JCAHO and HIPPA standards.


Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with patients, staff and medical providers. The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. This position is largely sedentary and requires the employee to remain stationary for a majority of the day. Any additional physical demands will be outlined and provided by management.
