TITLE: K-12 Teacher Librarian
BASIC FUNCTION: To develop and coordinate educational media services and assist teachers, staff, and students in the effective use of the media center and information technology as a learning resource to support the school’s curriculum and to develop students’ information literacy skills. To provide leadership and expertise to ensure the library program supports the educational mission, vision, and goals of the district.
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Teaching and Learning
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Oversee library associates districtwide and teach the elementary library program in collaboration with the library associate.
Operate and supervise school media centers in partnership with building principals.
Create and maintain inviting, safe, and flexible environments that promote student learning.
Maintains the Alexandria system for cataloging, organizing, and circulating materials to ensure equitable access and effective use.
Assist teachers in selecting and integrating books and digital resources that support instruction and curriculum goals.
Plan programs and prepare reports to meet state accreditation requirements for library media programs.
Evaluate and acquire current, diverse, and engaging materials with staff input to support core instruction.
Provide direct instruction in library skills, information literacy, and research processes, including responsible use of technology and media.
Develop and manage library budgets for materials, supplies, equipment, and repairs.
Collaborate with other libraries, AEA staff, and professional organizations to expand access to resources and services.
Promote and communicate library news, resources, and events through newsletters, emails, and other media.
Supervise and train library associates and other personnel to achieve library goals and objectives.
Maintain professional growth through ongoing training, professional learning, and engagement in library organizations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
A valid Iowa teacher’s certificate with K–12 Teacher Librarian endorsement.
Current Mandatory Reporter, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Right to Know
Successful completion of criminal background investigation.
High level of proficiency in the application, use, and selection of technology.
