Compensation: $100,000.00 per year ($52,000.00 base and commission on all sales)

Job Summary and Key Objectives:

The Design Sales Consultant combines consultative selling with design expertise to guide clients from initial vision to finished space. This role is responsible for building client relationships, translating design needs into curated product and service solutions, and closing sales that meet individual and department revenue goals.


Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Sales Performance: Drive personal sales by managing the full sales process - from prospecting through presentation, follow-up, and close - while maintaining strong average order value and conversion rates.
  • Client Consultation & Design: Meet with clients in-showroom and in-home to assess style, space, and budget; develop cohesive design concepts spanning furniture, window treatments, textiles, and accessories - providing an uncompromising customer service experience throughout.
  • House Calls & Measurements: Ability to conduct in-home visits to take measurements, evaluate space, and identify additional design opportunities; turning each visit into a sale opportunity.
  • Client Relationship Management: Track client pipeline and follow up post-delivery to build long-term relationships and generate referral/repeat business.
  • Product & Vendor Knowledge: Maintain working knowledge of product lines, custom order processes, lead times, and pricing/quoting to give clients accurate guidance.
  • Administrative Accuracy: Maintain organized client files, quotes, and orders using company systems (e.g., POS system, CRM); ensure accurate order entry on all closed sales and consistent upkeep of lead generation records.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Partner with internal order entry team, customer service, and dispatch as well as vendor contacts to ensure accurate order details, lead time maintenance and timely delivery.
  • Showroom Support: Maintain a clean organized work space, showroom organization and visual standards; support day-to-day operations and coverage, assisting wherever needed.
  • Continuous Improvement: Keep a sharp eye for what Saybrook Home can be doing better and share ideas that benefit the business.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in luxury retail or design industry
  • Proven sales track record by providing exceptional customer service
  • Knowledge of furniture and window treatments


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Capable of lifting and moving samples up to 25 lbs
  • Manual dexterity for organizing materials and samples


Schedule Requirements:

  • Full-time position including weekends
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule based on showroom needs
  • Availability for occasional evening events

  • Sales performance: Ability to hit sales goals consistently and grow your book of business.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Positive customer feedback and satisfaction scores.
  • Order Accuracy: Consistent accuracy in order processing and documentation, with minimal errors or rework.
  • Showroom Standards: Showroom organization and visual presentation meet company standards.
  • Team Collaboration: Effective collaboration and communication with team members and cross-functional partners.
  • Efficiency: Timely, reliable completion of tasks and responsibilities.
