Project Context
Customer is undertaking a large-scale IBM Z engineering modernization initiative focused
on transforming legacy mainframe software engineering, source control, build automation,
deployment automation, and CI/CD operating models across multiple business divisions.
The environment includes:
• IBM z/OS 3.2
• legacy source-control ecosystems
• mixed VSE and z/OS environments

• IBM ADFz toolchain adoption
• enterprise CI/CD transformation
• organizational and developer workflow modernization.
The engagement is NOT a generic DevOps role.
This role requires deep practical experience in:
• IBM Z DevOps
• mainframe SCM modernization
• CI/CD architecture for z/OS
• dependency-based builds
• JCL orchestration
• regulated enterprise release governance
• hybrid IBM engineering ecosystems.
Role Summary
The Senior IBM Z DevOps will lead the architecture, framework design, implementation
guidance, and engineering transformation strategy for SCP’s IBM Z DevOps
modernization initiative.
The Engineer will work closely with:

Core Responsibilities
1. IBM Z DevOps Transformation Architecture
• Design enterprise IBM Z DevOps target-state architecture.
• Define SCM modernization strategy.
• Design GitHub-centric engineering operating model.
• Define CI/CD architecture for z/OS applications.
• Design hybrid release orchestration workflows.
• Establish enterprise DevOps governance model.
• Define deployment and rollback strategies.
2. Legacy SCM Modernization
Lead modernization and migration strategy for legacy source-control environments
including:
• Panvalet
• BimEdit
• CONDOR
• legacy source libraries
• PDS-based source management.
Responsibilities include:
• SCM assessment
• repository rationalization
• migration planning
• dependency discovery
• branching strategy design
• promotion model modernization
• Git repository structure design.
3. IBM Z Build Automation
Design and guide implementation of:
• IBM Dependency Based Build (DBB)
• incremental dependency-aware builds
• COBOL build automation
• DBRM management
• JCL validation
• artifact packaging
• automated compile/link-edit processes
• impact analysis workflows.
4. Enterprise CI/CD Pipeline Design
Design and implement:
• GitHub-integrated pipelines
• Jenkins/GitHub Actions orchestration
• z/OS CI/CD workflows
• automated deployment pipelines
• release governance controls
• audit trail integration
• approval gates
• rollback automation
• environment promotion workflows.
5. IBM Wazi Deploy & Release Automation
Lead:
• Wazi Deploy implementation strategy
• deployment automation patterns

• environment synchronization

6. Developer Experience Modernization
Drive modernization of IBM Z developer workflows using:
• VS Code
• IBM Z Open Editor
• Zowe Explorer

Help transition teams away from:
• green-screen-only development
• siloed workflows
• manual build/deployment processes.
7. Runtime Engineering & Diagnostics
Guide implementation and usage patterns for:
