The Role

As the International Programs Disability Rights and Inclusion Fellow, you'll be integral to our work in helping children achieve a brighter future. You will provide technical support to advance disability rights and inclusion across Save the Children's international programs and policy and advocacy work, which spans development and humanitarian programming in 120 countries. Working alongside the global Disability Inclusion Working Group and the policy and advocacy team, you will support strategic initiatives including research and evaluation, technical guidance, partnerships with Organizations of People with Disabilities, and engagement with US government and USAID policies on disability inclusion. Your work will help build the capacity of Save the Children staff worldwide to ensure that children with disabilities have equitable access to programs and support in both development and humanitarian contexts.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

  • not inclusive of all role responsibilities. May be subject to change
  • Under the supervision of the International Disability Rights and Inclusion Advisor, provide cross-functional support to teams advancing Save the Children's work with children with disabilities and their families internationally. (20%)
  • Conduct desk research on topics relevant to international programs strategic priorities, including evidence-based practices, policy developments, funding opportunities, and peer organization approaches. (25%)
  • Assist with the review, drafting, and formatting of program materials, toolkits, presentations, reports, and internal communications. (20%)
  • Contribute to knowledge management efforts by maintaining shared resources, capturing lessons learned, and supporting the documentation of promising practices. (15%)
  • Support partnership and stakeholder engagement activities (talking points, presentations, notetaking). (10%)
  • Help draft communications content (talking points, social media, success stories) that highlights impact of programs.(5%)
  • Support coordination and logistics for meetings, working groups, and trainings with internal teams and external partners.(5%)

Required Qualifications For The Role

  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in disability inclusion in international development, in one of the following sectors: health, youth employment, inclusive education, child protection.
  • Must be an actively enrolled Associate, Bachelor, Master or other post high school education program, or have graduated within 6 months of program start date.
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with individuals and teams
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging

Preferred Qualifications for The Role

  • Academic focus on international development in either development or humanitarian settings, in a thematic or geographic area in which Save the Children works.
  • Experience working with a Disabled People’s Organization
  • Language skills in American Sign Language.

Classification: Fellow

Compensation: $17.00-$17.95 / hour (depending on location)

Hours: maximum 24 hours per week
