Responsibilities
- Works under the direction of the Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager and follows direction with the Meat Specialist
- Responsible for leading the performance of the deli department to achieve and exceed metric goals
- Responsibilities include incorporating and adhering to all safety and sanitation standards and expectations, product ordering, merchandising, productivity and maintaining control of shrink to meet company and business unit goals
- Responsible for coaching and training others who complete deli related tasks within the deli department
- Sets and executes all work priorities and directs the assignment of individual tasks within the deli department
- Responsible for enforcing deli policies and procedures within assigned store
- Uses knives, slicers, ovens, stoves, fryers and other utensils or power equipment in accordance to company policies.
- Ensures displays and case signs are updated appropriately, and deli product is presented to maximize sales
- Maintains proper date rotation for dated and undated products per company policy, both in the display case and in the storage cooler
- Prepares and places deli cuts and prepared deli products in display counter according to company policy & procedures so they will appear attractive and appealing to the customers
- Bags, packages both hot and cold deli products in accordance to company standards
- Labels packages according to COOL, USDA and company standards
- Receives and inspects deli product upon delivery, to maintain cold chain and ensure meat quality
- Ensures excellent sanitation and quality standards are met daily and adhered to per company policy
- Responsible for following and executing all company policies and procedures which includes but is not limited to: COOL, Food Safety, Sanitation, Meat/Produce Scale operation, Mark Downs, Inventory Processes, Daily Manager Signoff and Deli production list
- Responsibilities may include other perishable and non-perishable related duties necessary to maintain optimal store performance
- Protects company property, funds and merchandise
- May be assigned to work in more than one store and other areas of the store
- Must be 18 years of age
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- One year of previous experience hot and cold deli production including using hand tools and power equipment, such as knives, slicers, ovens, stoves, fryers, mixers preferred
- Company work history will be strongly considered, including attendance, work performance, safety, policy compliance and performance management
- Proficiency in basic math skills required, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Must be able to read, write and speak in English. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication, interpersonal skills. Language proficiency in Spanish or other languages is a plus
- Must be dependable and flexible, including a willingness to work in other areas of the store as needed with little or no advance notice
- Excellent customer service, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
- Must adhere to uniform dress code
- Most work is performed in a fluctuating environment. Must be able to work in either hot or cold conditions.
- Requires the ability to reach, bend, twist, balance, lift and transport various objects weighing up to 30 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift; at times, product weight may reach 100 pounds
- Requires the ability to move heavy product with assistance
- Must have the ability to stand, walk and / or move about for extended periods of time
- Requires the ability to push, pull, grasp, for extended periods of time
