Job Description
This role is funded in-part by a Georgia Forestry Commission grant focused on efforts to reduce invasive tree species to help maintain a healthy tree canopy. The Community Engagement Coordinator will advance Savannah Tree Foundation’s mission by connecting people with trees through inclusive outreach, volunteer engagement, and community partnerships. Working closely with the Program Manager, this role will develop and share digital and creative content to promote tree education and coordinate events that bring neighbors together around planting and caring for trees. By cultivating strong relationships across diverse neighborhoods, the Coordinator will help expand equitable access to the benefits of native trees, strengthen the volunteer pipeline, and ensure that every participant feels valued and part of a lasting community impact.
Responsibilities
Volunteer Coordination & Community Engagement:
- Support the Program Manager in development and execution of outreach initiatives, educational workshops, and community events that focus on eradication of invasive species.
- Embed invasive species eradication into education modules, leaflets and guides, and existing planting and activities
- Develop relationships with tree removal companies/programs and identify funding sources to assist with invasive tree removal
- Represent Savannah Tree Foundation at outreach activities, with flexibility for some weekends and occasional evenings
- Develop and implement strategies to expand community knowledge and understanding of the risks of invasive species and the importance of a healthy tree canopy, and increase participation and engagement
- Coordinate volunteer recruitment, scheduling, and participation for programs and events
- Maintain volunteer records and foster ongoing engagement and recognition
- Cultivate relationships with community partners, schools, and local organizations
- Assist with public inquiries and provide accurate program information
Communication and Engagement:
- Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive digital communication strategy to strengthen Savannah Tree Foundation’s brand and online presence, to focus on education, awareness, and understanding of the benefits of a healthy urban forest, as well as the negative impacts posed by invasive species
- Create and manage high-quality, engaging content for social media platforms to grow audience reach and drive community engagement, including new content and videos focused on the risks posed by invasive species on our canopy
- Design and produce digital and print marketing materials including graphics, newsletters, and event promotions that align with organizational goals, including the eradication of invasive species.
- Oversee regular updates to the organization’s website to ensure accurate, timely, and compelling content
- Analyze digital engagement metrics and recommend strategies to optimize performance and increase visibility
- Collaborate with staff to develop campaigns that highlight programs, events, and community impact
Required Qualifications
- Experience in office administration, creative content development, outreach, or event coordination
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Advanced proficiency in social media management and graphic design tools, including Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar platforms
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with email and database management tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team environment
- Passion for trees, conservation, and environmental sustainability
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience
Desired Qualifications
- Background in marketing and communications within a nonprofit environment
- Experience in community outreach or volunteer management
- Passion for community and natural resources in Coastal Georgia
Compensation
- Hourly Rate: $24 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
- Part-time position: Up to 25 hours per week with a flexible schedule, including occasional Saturdays and weeknight events as needed.
- Work Location: In-person (Savannah, GA 31401).
