Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking an experience Microsoft Exchange Online Administrator and Email Security specialist to support the OCIO Computer Operations and Cloud Computing team. This candidate will have a deep understanding of Exchange Online, with knowledge of interacting with Exchange hybrid environments, related Microsoft 365 services including Purview and Entra ID. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to support business needs, implementing best practices, and driving continuous improvement in our email and collaboration infrastructure. This role will also require a working knowledge of Proofpoint On-Demand hosted email security or ProofPoint Protection Server.

Key Responsibilities
- Administration & Management: Manage the daily operations of Microsoft Exchange and M365 email systems, including mailbox management, mail flow, and hybrid configurations.
- Security & Compliance: Implement and enforce security, data loss prevention (DLP), eDiscovery, retention policies, and compliance standards across email environments, often collaborating with dedicated cybersecurity teams.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Provide advanced-level support for email-related issues, perform root cause analysis, and resolve complex problems promptly.
- Migration & Integration: Take part in the execution of migrations to Exchange Online and integrate email systems with other M365 services and third-party tools like SIEM systems.
- Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for automation of routine tasks, reporting, and provisioning.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor system health, performance, and security metrics, generating reports on usage and performance for management.
- Documentation & Best Practices: Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and best practices.
- Proofpoint Management: Configure and monitor Proofpoint Email Protection solutions to defend against spam, phishing, and malware threats. This involves managing security policies, threat protection, and ensuring proper mail routing. Working with and understanding DMARC, SPF and TLS configuration will be required.
- SMIME certificate setup and configuration.
- Microsoft Purview Message Encryption, Labeling, and Auto Labeling configuration.
- Ensure 24/7 Email Availability and Reliability.
- Optimize Mail Flow and Delivery.
- Educate teams on email delivery configurations.
- Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with an ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience: Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of experience managing Microsoft Exchange Server with emphasis with Exchange Online. Includes experience with hybrid environments. 4 experience managing an email security gateway appliance with preference to ProofPoint. Equivalent experience will be reviewed in lieu of degree.
- Technical Skills: Strong expertise in email security tools (Proofpoint and Microsoft Purview/Defender for O365), PowerShell scripting, Active Directory, DNS, and network configurations.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate are often beneficial.
- Directory Management: Deep understanding of EntraID and User Attributes.
- Compliance: Implement, audit, and enforce email retention policies, legal holds (eDiscovery/Purview), and information governance rules to meet all necessary industry and legal standards.
- Streamline User Provisioning and Support: Automate the lifecycle management of user mailboxes, shared resources, and distribution groups using tools like PowerShell, thereby reducing administrative overhead and improving response times for user requests.
- Facilitate Seamless M365 Integration: Ensure smooth, functional integration between Exchange Online and other core Microsoft 365 services (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive), maximizing the overall utility and adoption of the full platform.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills are essential for working with IT teams and end-users.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate or Enterprise Administrator Expert.
- Experience in Federal Government and/or higher educational environments.
