PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for performing administrative compliance functions requiring independent judgement to ensure the SCCPSS Legal Office operates effectively, professionally, and in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience performing comparable tasks listed under Duties and Responsibilities or college degree.
Preferred:
- Associates degree or higher in a relevant field.
- Meaningful and aligned experience in an educational, government, or legal setting.
- Credentials or qualifications in law, project management, user experience
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Georgia notary public or must be able to obtain notary licensure within six months of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- High proficiency with the Office 365 Suite is required.
- Ability to use technology effectively. efficiently and proactively.
- Strong organizational, time-management and attention to detail skills.
- Proficient at creating and maintaining electronic records management systems and digital user interfaces for the exchange of information.
- Able to create and implement workflows and systems to coordinate complex tasks that involve multiple people and departments.
- Ability to review and evaluate investigation records, including audio recordings, for accuracy, completeness, and compliance relevance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Create and edit professional documents and correspondence using Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Draft legal correspondence and legal documents.
- Independently coordinate and evaluate record collection and production in collaboration with district staff to ensure legal sufficiency and compliance prior to attorney review.
- Prepare and redact district records for legal production and independently determine the scope, relevance, and sufficiency of records responsive to subpoenas, open records requests, and legal demands prior to attorney review.
- Apply relevant legal and regulatory requirements to records determinations and identify potential compliance concerns for review by In-House Counsel.
- Serve as a Georgia notary.
- Maintain knowledge of district record processes at a level that allows for the verification of district records.
- Perform record-keeping functions for the Legal Office.
- Maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information and discussions, whether electronic, written, or verbal.
- Manage office level external communications for the Legal Office related to legal records and compliance matters, exercising discretion regarding content, timing, and coordination with counsel.
- Assist with office-level budget, procurement, and timekeeping as directed.
- Assist the Legal Office Staff in the provision of in-person and virtual legal training activities for district staff and stakeholders.
- Review records related to civil rights investigations and identify record-based compliance concerns or deficiencies for review.
- Perform other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees in this classification are normally exposed to a typical office or related environment. There will be prolonged periods of sitting, and there may be frequent bending, stooping, or stretching. There are occasions that require the lifting or pulling of equipment or supplies. Reading, listening, writing, and speaking are requirements. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands.
