Our Material Handling Operators come to Savage for the challenge, growth and focus on safety, but they stay because of the outstanding culture that exists here. Our company was founded on processing and transporting materials for our customers. We understand and respect our Team Members as the lifeblood of what we do.  Team Members are encouraged to find a better way and are enabled to “do things they never dreamed possible”.  This operation is located within the Valero St. Charles  Refinery in Norco, Louisiana.  At this operation, our team manages the coke handling and export process for the refinery. 

Here is what you will be doing: 

• Load barges utilizing a conveyor system
• Operate front end loaders and material handlers, and skid steers to move petcoke.  
• Maintain good and open communication with fellow Team Members, Equipment Operators, Cran Operator, Supervision, Managers and Maintenance Personnel via radio and other proper means
• Help maintenance personnel with equipment maintenance when additional manpower is needed
• Properly inspect equipment prior to and post operating and report any additional maintenance needs, and conduct frequent
  audits on the  heavy equipment
• Ensure clean work space by removing trash and debris from all areas of responsibility including structures, offices, restrooms, break rooms, vehicles, and equipment
• Complete all necessary documentation as required including JHA's, permits, log entries, audit sheet, and daily check sheets
• Learn other positions as time permits

Requirements of a successful Material Handling Operator:

• Maintenance: mechanically inclined and have worked in jobs that require you to trouble shoot or fix mechanical breakdowns
• Equipment Operation: experience operating several different types of heavy equipment from various manufacturers 
• Refinery or Industrial Plant Operations: experience with high safety standards and dangers of working in these types of environments
• Strong written and oral communication skill in English
• Hands on Exposure with maintaining equipment using hydraulics, electrical trouble shooting, and pneumatic

Here is what we need from you:

• Following safety regulations and written procedures within a refinery or chemical plant
• Read, write and speak English
• High school diploma/GED 
• Valid TWIC
• Valid Driver’s License

Here are some of the physical requirements for this role:

• You will be routinely required to work outdoors and as a result are exposed to the elements
• Lift up to 50lbs frequently
• Physically able to handle large tools, climb on and off the equipment, ascend and descend ladders
• Climb on and off the equipment, ascend and descend a ladder
• Stand, kneel or crawl
• Work a rotating schedule including days and nights
• Must be comfortable with heights
