What you'll be doing
- Operate heavy equipment and support all Carbon/Emery surface-operation sites
- Work rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Perform general labor, basic repairs, equipment maintenance, and site clean-up
- Complete pre-shift inspections and maintain MSHA-compliant work practices
- Maintain yard efficiency, minimize truck delays, and ensure continuous coverage
- Keep work areas and equipment clean, including washing, greasing, and spill cleanup
- Follow direction from the Site Manager and work safely with the team
- Communicate professionally with customers and team members
- Complete SHAPS observations and provide shift coverage as needed
What you'll need
- Willingness to assist with all worksite duties as directed
- Dependability and punctuality
- Consistent use of required PPE
- Some equipment operating experience is a plus
- Strong safety performance and commitment to helping others work safely
- Ability to follow all Savage rules, policies, and procedures
- Willingness to work holidays and weekends
- Can follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision
- Communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, comprehension)
Physical requirements of this role
- Work outdoors daily in all weather conditions
- Lift 50–70 lbs
- Climb on/off railcars, heavy equipment, and processing equipment safely
- Work more than 40 hours per week, including possible weekends
- Work on uneven ballast surfaces for extended periods (walking, standing, lifting)
- Use basic hand tools
