Position OverviewThe Uniform Armed Security Specialist assignment at Cajon Pass is an active, high-visibility role supporting railroad safety operations and securing one of the busiest freight corridors in the country. This is not a static guard post — you will be mobile, engaged, and relied upon to make sound decisions in real time.
You will work closely with railroad police and Savage III leadership to deter crime, protect high-value shipments, enforce safety protocols, and maintain situational awareness across a large outdoor environment. Candidates must be disciplined, observant, professional, and confident working independently.
Key ResponsibilitiesYour duties will include:
- Enforcing railroad safety policies and assisting railroad police during incidents or emergencies
- Deterring and detecting burglaries, theft, tampering, and trespassing involving loaded containers and trailers
- Inspecting inbound and outbound trains for missing seals, open doors, and unauthorized access
- Reporting unsealed or compromised containers immediately to railroad police
- Stopping and identifying all non-employees and private vehicles entering the intermodal ramp or right-of-way
- Conducting perimeter and fence-line patrols to identify damage, breaches, or open gates
- Escorting and inspecting inbound trains to prevent vehicle–train incidents and ensure safe movement
- Performing foot and vehicle patrols of assigned areas to maintain visibility and deter criminal activity
- Requesting emergency response personnel when high-risk or urgent conditions arise

Preferred Background
- Experience in high-end security, military operations, or law enforcement environments
Required Certifications
- Valid BSIS Guard Card (required)
- BSIS Exposed Firearm Permit (required)
- 40-hour Security Guard Training (required)
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- PC832 a plus
- CPR / First Responder certifications (preferred)
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills (bilingual a plus)
- Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation abilities
- Reliable transportation and consistent punctuality required
- Professional appearance—clean, pressed uniform, and maintained grooming standards
- Basic computer/report writing capabilities (Word, typing reports, gate systems)
- Understanding of emergency egress procedures and VIP protocol/sensitivities (preferred)
- Ability to remain stationary for up to 50% of shift
- Ability to stand, walk, drive, and maintain situational awareness for extended periods
- Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit while remaining alert
- Frequent use of hands and arms above/below shoulder height
- Occasional lifting/pushing/pulling up to 25 lbs
- Work in outdoor conditions, including severe weather
- Various shifts available (8-hour and 12-hour options)
- Start Date: January 1st (with shooting & driving assessment second week of December)
- Pay Rate: $20–$25 per hour (depending on experience and certifications)
