Farm Market Store Manager

Job Description: Saunders Brothers is a wholesale nursery and orchard family farm in central Virginia. Saunders Brothers is looking for a Farm Market Manager. This employee will oversee the daily operations of our retail Farm Market in Piney River, VA. Applicants must have excellent management and interpersonal skills, enjoy meeting new people, and enjoy the friendly atmosphere of a family owned and operated farm market.

Duties:

• Willing to work in a fast-paced environment of the Farm Market: includes fruits, vegetables, nursery stock and other products
• Responsible for daily operations of the Farm Market including:
• Weekly ordering and management of inventory.
• Scheduling and management of FM staff as they assist customers in the selection of plants, fruit, produce, operating checkout system, and serving ice cream and other products.
• Oversee registers/check out/inventory system (Clover).
• Ensure compliance with market rules/regulations/food safety requirements.
• Planning fruit crop sale timing with Wholesale Fruit dept.
• Coordinating special events, including Saturdays.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy meeting new people.
• Willing to complete ServSafe/Food Safety certification.
• Willing to assist in marketing of the Farm Market using social media and emails.
• Participate in end-of-season market evaluation and goal setting for next season.
• Work cooperatively with other members of the Retail and Wholesale Fruit department teams.
• Willing to perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

• Prefer a 4-year college degree or high school diploma with 4 years of retail or management experience.
• Have excellent math and organizational skills with excellent attention to detail. Computer skills including Microsoft Exchange/Outlook, Excel, Word, and Google Applications.
• Have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, integrity, and willingness to work with Saunders Brothers ‘Family’.
• Able to lift 30 lbs. of peaches, apples or other produce.
• Able spend approximately 8 hours per day standing and must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, squat, and twist around. Able to work outdoors in weather conditions including heat, cold and dust.
• Willing to work in a team atmosphere.
• Be able to handle several tasks at the same time, prioritize workload, and have flexibility as work demands change.
• Willing to work with Spanish-speaking workers and be open to learning Spanish.
• Have good communication and listening skills and be able to effectively work with entire staff at Saunders Brothers.

Supervisor: This position will answer directly to the Chief Management Officer of Saunders Brothers, Inc.

Hours: Hours for this position will fluctuate seasonally. Market hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the spring, fall, and winter (open April through mid-December). Summer market hours are typically from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm (Memorial Day through Labor Day). During summer harvest, this position may require longer workdays in order to get tasks accomplished. (Increased hours during peak season are balanced by lesser hours in winter season.) Vacation is highly discouraged during peak season. All vacations must be approved in advance by supervisor. This is a full-time year-round position.
