Position Overview
Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center (SRVRTC) is seeking a dynamic, collaborative,
and enthusiastic Work-Based Learning & Career Coordinator. This vital role is designed to
bridge the gap between classroom education and the local business community, helping high
school students transition seamlessly from career exploration to real-world experience.
The successful candidate will oversee, expand, and manage SRVRTC's comprehensive
Work-Based Learning (WBL) program, including internships, job shadowing, co-ops, and
apprenticeships. The goal is to maximize student engagement with local industries, build
foundational professional skills, and establish clear career pathways. While the ideal candidate
will have strong experience in career counseling or industry relations, they must possess the
versatility to support and coordinate opportunities across all six of SRVRTC's core programs.
Program Development & Launch
? Build the WBL Framework: Design and implement a brand-new, structured
Work-Based Learning program framework, including extended learning opportunities
(ELOs), internships, job shadowing, and youth apprenticeships.
? Establish Compliance & Safety Systems: Create the foundational legal paperwork,
student training plans, evaluation rubrics, and insurance verification workflows, ensuring
complete alignment with state labor laws and school board policies.
? Student Intake & Placement: Develop a screening process to assess student career
interests, evaluate workplace readiness, and orchestrate initial student placements in
business environments.
? Cultivate New Business Alliances: Serve as the founding liaison between SRVRTC
and the local business community. Actively cold-call, network with, and recruit local
employers, chambers of commerce, and workforce boards to secure inaugural
placement sites.

The Coordinator will build new external partnerships and collaborate with instructors to establish
first-time career experiences across SRVRTC's six core areas:
Program WBL & Career Focus Areas

Medical
Assisting

Establishing initial clinical placements, healthcare job
shadowing, and direct pipelines to local clinics and
hospitals.

Culinary Arts Launching new restaurant/catering co-ops and
securing hands-on commercial kitchen placements.

Entrepreneurs
hip

Creating small business mentorship frameworks,
chamber of commerce partnerships, and local
marketing internships.

Plumbing &
HVAC

Setting up new registered youth apprenticeships and
field-work partnerships with local contractors.

Machine Tool Coordinating new manufacturing facility tours and paid
co-ops with regional precision machining firms.

Building
Construction

Securing on-site construction project placements and
structural partnerships with local builders and trade unions.

 

 

 

Job Requirements
Required:
? Program Building: A strong willingness and initiative to build and start programs,
projects, or business partnerships
? Industry or Networking Experience: A strong background in workforce development,
human resources, career options, or community relations.
? Adaptability: A proven willingness and ability to quickly learn the specific operational
needs, terminology, and safety standards across all six of SRVRTC's diverse program
areas.
? Organization & Compliance: Exceptional organizational skills to manage student data,
legal compliance contracts, and schedules across multiple off-site locations.
? Communication: Outstanding interpersonal and public speaking skills to effectively
pitch the value of a brand-new SRVRTC program to local business leaders and students.
Preferred:
? Valid state certification/licensure for Work-Based Learning Coordinator, Career &
Technical Education, or School Counseling (or eligibility to obtain a
provisional/alternative license).
? Experience working within a high school or CTE center environment.
? Deep knowledge of state child labor laws and Department of Labor regulations regarding
student workers.
