What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Student Services position at SAU 6 Public Schools?

SUMMARY OF POSITION
The purpose of the Director of Student Services is to oversee and support the specially designed
education programs, instruction, and interventions that provide SAU 6 students with
exceptionalities access to the same educational programs and/or activities that are available to
their nondisabled peers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
? Monitor and evaluate the efficacy of special education programs and services.
? Maintain updated Special Education Plan.
? Provide leadership for special education services for all SAU #6 identified students.
? Coordinate the selection of curriculum for special education students that is aligned with
the District’s core curriculum.
? Coordinate and facilitate staff meetings for District special education staff.
? Coordinate provision of professional development activities for special education, general
education, and administrative staff around special education topics.
? Attend School Board meetings and other team/committee meetings as needed.
? Attend IEP meetings and evaluation meetings, as needed.
? Develop and monitor special education budgets.
? Manage IDEA grant.
? Reporting all expenditures in the NH DOE online grants management system.
? Maintain accurate records for legal and auditing purposes.
? Complete and submit all required State reporting for special education programs.
? Obtain legal counsel, as needed, to maintain compliance within the special education
program.
? Attend all Mediation and Due Process hearings as representative of SAU#6.
? Serve as contact with the NH DOE special education consultants.
? Provide support and direction regarding students who are placed out of district.
? Supervise the Medicaid to Schools program for SAU#6, ensuring all requests for
Medicaid reimbursement are within the confines of the Medicaid law.
? Negotiate and monitor contracts for Claremont and Unity School Districts with any third
party billing agent.
? Monitor and evaluate the efficacy of 504 programming and services.
? Provide knowledge and leadership for 504 services.
? Facilitate connections between families and community agencies.
? Oversee English for Speakers of Other Languages programming.
? Employ and operationalize for own staff, the district values, vision, mission, and guiding
principles .
? Ensure IEP and special education services are integrated to facilitate access, participation,
and progress into the general education curriculum.
? Create an environment designed to promote a high level of student engagement that
facilitates students taking responsibility for their learning – academic, social, and
emotional.
? Foster the development of strong partnerships among all key stakeholders to facilitate
service delivery and attain significant academic, social, and emotional growth for each
and every student with special needs.
? Other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE
? NH Certification as Special Education Administrator
? Master degree or higher
? Experience as a special education teacher, special education coordinator, school
psychologist or other similar position.

? Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Able to communicate with
