Reports To: Building Principal and/or Special Education Administrator FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Employment Status: Hourly, School Year Position Position Purpose: To provide instructional, behavioral, and/or clerical support to students and teachers in general education classrooms, special education settings, or Title I programs, depending on the assignment and funding source. The paraeducator works under the direct supervision of a certified educator and contributes to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment that advances student success. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Support Reinforce and supplement teacher-led instruction under supervision of certified staff. Assist with small group or one-on-one instruction to support differentiated learning needs. Support students in following directions, completing tasks, and developing independence. Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in student IEPs, 504 plans, or Title I intervention plans. Support progress monitoring and data collection for instructional or intervention purposes. Classroom & Behavioral Support Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment. Implement behavior support strategies or positive behavior interventions as directed. Assist students with transitions, organization, and daily routines. Provide supervision during recess, lunch, bus duty, or other assigned areas. Administrative & Clerical Assistance Prepare and organize instructional materials. Maintain accurate records of student activities, progress, and interventions. Communicate regularly with the supervising teacher regarding student progress or concerns. Assignment Designation Paraeducators are assigned and funded based on program needs: General Education Paraeducator: Supports all students and teachers in classrooms or instructional areas to enhance learning opportunities and classroom management. Special Education Paraeducator: Supports students with disabilities in inclusive or specialized settings, implementing individualized supports and services as outlined in IEPs. Title I Paraeducator: Provides supplemental academic support in reading and/or mathematics for eligible students as part of the school’s Title I program, under direct supervision of certified Title I staff. (Note: Assignment may change based on student needs or funding availability. All paraeducators are considered part of the instructional support team regardless of funding source.) Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with children. Ability to establish effective relationships with students, staff, and families. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development. Working Conditions Work is typically performed in classrooms, small group spaces, or other school environments. May involve physical activity, lifting up to 25 pounds, and assisting students with mobility or self-care needs (if assigned in certain special education roles). Evaluation Performance will be evaluated annually by the Building Principal and/or Supervisor in accordance with district policy. SALARY RANGE: $21,000 – $32,000, commensurate with experience and education level, aligned with North Country market rates and comparable districts; excellent health benefits package for single, single plus one, or family plan. The District pays 87% of the health benefits package.
