TRANSPORTATION MANAGER

Position Type Manager

Reports To Student Services Director

Position Summary

The Transportation Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the district's transportation

department. The position supports safe, efficient transportation services and ensures compliance with New

Hampshire State Board of Education and Department of Transportation requirements, as well as established

district policies, guidelines, and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Transportation Operations and Compliance

 Monitor and support the efficient daily operation of the transportation department in accordance with

applicable federal and state requirements and district policies and procedures.

 Track licenses and registrations for all district buses and vans to ensure they remain valid and current.

 Prepare and submit required and requested transportation reports in a timely manner.

 Participate in ongoing and required training, including Department of Transportation, New Hampshire

State Board of Education, and district training.

Fleet Maintenance and Readiness

 Resolve issues involving bus and van maintenance and transportation emergencies.

 Oversee the scheduling of preventive maintenance inspections for all buses and arrange urgent or

emergency repairs as needed.

 Maintain complete records of all preventive maintenance and repairs performed on district buses and

vans.

 Purchase equipment for the transportation fleet in accordance with district policies and procedures.

 Coordinate with transportation staff to ensure that personnel and vehicles are prepared for state

inspections.

Routing and Dispatch

 Develop and maintain routes and schedules for district-operated buses and vans.

 Dispatch buses and vans as necessary to support daily transportation needs.

 Review bus video footage as needed or requested.

Staff Credentials and Professional Responsibilities

 Collaborate with the Student Services Department to verify that transportation staff maintain all required

licenses, federal, state, and local credentials, and required training.

 Ensure that bus drivers follow established district transportation policies and procedures.

 Maintain confidentiality of information pertaining to students, families, and district staff.

 Attend staff meetings, in-service programs, and other meetings or training as required.

 Maintain a valid school bus driver's license and serve as a district bus driver when needed.

Transportation Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Transportation Manager coordinates the work of transportation staff to support safe and efficient

operations. Specific supervisory authority is assigned by the Student Services Director in accordance with district

policy.

Qualifications

 High school diploma or equivalent required.

 Two to three years of transportation management or coordination experience preferred.

 Knowledge of Department of Transportation guidelines and requirements preferred.

 Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and other applicable technology preferred.

 Current commercial driver's license required, or ability to obtain the required license after hire.

 Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

 Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and respond effectively to transportation needs and

emergencies.

 Knowledge of school bus operations and driving practices preferred.

 Ability to provide transportation to and from work and to travel during the workday as required.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in settings that may involve moderate safety risks. The position requires travel to meetings,

training, conferences, district sites, and other locations as needed. Physical requirements include sitting,

standing, bending, and moderate lifting.

district policies and applicable agreements.
