SUMMARY:
saturn petcare, inc. has a new state of the art, pet food manufacturing facility. The Quality Control Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring that SPI maintains high standards and consistently delivers quality products or services. The Quality Control Engineer maintains close working relationships with shop floor manufacturing team to ensure and maintain product quality, identify, solve, and prevent problems affecting product quality, maximize productivity, and comply with regulatory requirements.
The Quality Control Engineer reports to the Site Quality Control Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assessing food safety risks and to assure appropriate controls are in place preventing food safety hazards.
- Implementing methods to inspect, test and evaluate the reliability of manufacturing processes, products and production equipment
- Determining quality improvement factors, preparing reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data, and providing reasonable recommendation and implementation plans.
- Responding to day-to-day design, production, and customer quality issues related to production lines.
- Resolving production problems associated with process errors, non-conforming parts and design problems.
- Actively participates in root cause analysis on failures.
- Reviewing manufacturing instructions for completeness, correctness, and comprehension by operations personnel.
- Ensuring that quality assurance specifications are met by engineering, manufacturing, and other involved functions.
- Validating that product and process capabilities are met for present and proposed product changes in accordance with FDA and USDA requirements.
- Verifying thermal process capability and conformance to process specification of products and recommending new specifications where appropriate.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as operations, and Supply Chain to ensure quality control standards are integrated into all aspects of the organization.
- Conducting regular audits and inspections to identify areas of non-compliance or opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborating with the Research and Development team to ensure new products or processes meet quality standards before they are introduced to the market.

Qualifications and Duties:

Education and/or Experience:
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to effectively lead and develop a team.
- At least 5- 10 years of manufacturing environment; experience with food manufacturing a plus.
- Experience with pet food manufacturing most desired.
- BS degree in Food science or related field (Meat Science, Biology, Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Chemistry or industrial engineering).
- ASQ QE certification a plus
- SAP Experience including QM module preferred.
- Six Sigma certification preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts, problems, and ideas to various levels within the organization.
- Working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma tools a plus.
- Proficiency in using quality control tools and software, such as statistical analysis software and quality management systems.
- Ability to perform both internal and external quality and food safety audits.
- Preferred: HACCP, PCQI, SQF, Allergen Control, Food Recall, and Root Cause Analysis trainings.
Computer Skills:
- The successful candidate must be proficient in MS Office applications, Minitab, SAP and a DMS program.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. German language speaking skills is another advantage.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and ability to apply concepts such as: fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
