A Property Preservation Field Tech (or “Field Tech”) is someone who inspects, maintains, and secures properties—mainly vacant or foreclosed homes—on behalf of banks, mortgage companies, or property management firms.

Responsibilities

  • Secure the property: change locks, board up windows, install lockboxes
  • Inspect the property: take detailed photos, document damage or hazards
  • Perform light maintenance: mow lawns, clean out debris, minor repairs
  • Winterize homes: especially in cold climates (drain pipes, shut off water, etc.)
  • Report back to the company with photos and documentation

Skills

  • A reliable vehicle (usually a truck or van)
  • Basic tools: drills, lock change kits, yard equipment
  • Smartphone/tablet with camera and GPS
  • Ability to follow work orders and complete reports on time
  • Comfort working independently and in rough or rural areas

Challenges

  • Unpredictable hours and weather

Dealing with abandoned or unsafe properties

Requires attention to detail, punctuality, and physical stamina

How Much Does It Pay?

  • Often paid per job or per property, not hourly
  • Rates vary based on location and company—common range is $30 to $100 per job, depending on complexity
  • This Is A 1099 contractors
