A Property Preservation Field Tech (or “Field Tech”) is someone who inspects, maintains, and secures properties—mainly vacant or foreclosed homes—on behalf of banks, mortgage companies, or property management firms.
Responsibilities
- Secure the property: change locks, board up windows, install lockboxes
- Inspect the property: take detailed photos, document damage or hazards
- Perform light maintenance: mow lawns, clean out debris, minor repairs
- Winterize homes: especially in cold climates (drain pipes, shut off water, etc.)
- Report back to the company with photos and documentation
Skills
- A reliable vehicle (usually a truck or van)
- Basic tools: drills, lock change kits, yard equipment
- Smartphone/tablet with camera and GPS
- Ability to follow work orders and complete reports on time
- Comfort working independently and in rough or rural areas
Challenges
- Unpredictable hours and weather
Dealing with abandoned or unsafe properties
Requires attention to detail, punctuality, and physical stamina
How Much Does It Pay?
- Often paid per job or per property, not hourly
