Central Kenilworth Avenue Revitalization CDC (CKAR) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that forms strategic partnerships to implement projects in the Greater Riverdale community, including community and economic development, workforce training, environmental sustainability, business retention, and advocacy. Greater Riverdale consists of several communities in Council District 3 within Prince George's County, Maryland. They are: The Town of Riverdale Park, the unincorporated communities of East Riverdale (Riverdale Heights, Riverdale Hills, Templeton Knolls, and Eastpines), Beacon Heights, Rosswil, Hanson Oaks, Woodlawn and West Lanham Hills. In addition to its community development work, CKAR operates Sarvis Cafe, a mission-driven social enterprise that supports workforce development and community gathering. CKAR also partners closely with the University of Maryland, collaborates with other local and regional nonprofits, and works alongside county and municipal officials to advance community-centered projects and initiatives. Position Overview
CKAR is seeking a Community Engagement & Project Coordinator to join our team full time. This role will work primarily on the Community Plaza Project, supporting day-to-day coordination, community engagement, and communications efforts. The Coordinator will also assist with other CKAR initiatives as needed and provide direct support to the Executive Director with presentations, reports, and project materials.
While this role will focus primarily on the Community Plaza (Underpass) Project, the Coordinator will also support other CKAR initiatives as needed, including Sarvis Café programming, community meals, and small business support efforts.
This is a highly collaborative role ideal for someone who is organized, community-oriented, and comfortable working across outreach, logistics, and administrative support. Office tasks such as research, grant writing, attending staff meetings, sharing strategies and suggestions with other office staff and contributing to a positive work environment are included.
Key Responsibilities
Community Plaza Project (Primary Focus):
- Coordinate and schedule meetings, community gatherings, and stakeholder convenings
- Support community engagement efforts, including outreach to residents, partners, and local organizations
- Assist with event planning logistics (venue coordination, RSVPs, materials, and follow-up)
- Help track project milestones, timelines, and action items
- Support documentation of community feedback and meeting outcomes
Communications & Outreach:
- Draft and distribute event invitations, updates, and follow-up communications
- Assist with maintaining mailing lists and outreach platforms (e.g., email campaigns, flyers, social media content)
- Support outreach efforts to ensure broad and inclusive community participation
Executive Director Support:
- Assist the Executive Director with preparing presentations, reports, and briefing materials
- Help organize project documentation and supporting materials for partners and funders
- Support data collection and reporting related to project activities and outcomes
Additional CKAR Support:
- Provide general program and administrative support across CKAR initiatives as needed
- Provide occasional support for Sarvis Cafe programming, community meals, or small business–focused initiatives in collaboration with CKAR staff and partners.
- Collaborate with staff, partners, interns, and consultants on ongoing projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in public administration, communications, planning, or a related field
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience coordinating meetings, events, or community engagement activities preferred
- Comfortable working with diverse stakeholders and community members
- Proficient in Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office (Canva and email platforms a plus)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt in a fast-paced, community-focused environment
Preferred Attributes
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
- Experience working in community-based or nonprofit settings
- Familiarity with Prince George's County or Greater Riverdale communities
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
