SUMMARY

The Sanitation Coordinator serves as the subject matter expert of sanitation and is responsible for overseeing all sanitation operations in the creamery, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and hygiene standards to support production plans and plant start-up. The Sanitation Coordinator is expected to be an example of high-quality workmanship and commitment to excellence through the support of a continuous improvement and customer focused culture. This role manages and maintains Clean-in-place (CIP) systems across multiple interdependent systems. The Sanitation Coordinator will also coordinate with Quality Assurance, Production, and Maintenance teams to align sanitation schedules with production goals. This position works Monday - Friday, 6pm to 2am.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinates sanitation activities in all areas of the creamery.
  • Serves as an example for Team Members in all areas of performance, including attendance.
  • Ensures team members are following and complying with all company policies, procedures, and programs, including Safety, Quality, hazard analysis critical control points (HACCP) and good manufacturing practices (GMP’s).
  • Takes responsibility for ensuring the total sanitation time aligns with production plans and supports a smooth start-up.
  • Collaborates with team on Continuous Improvement initiatives associated with sanitation.
  • Responsible for wastewater monitoring to reduce waste and maintain compliance with State or Federal Governmental Agencies.
  • Operates, monitors, trains against, and maintains the creamery’s CIP systems, understanding the complex interdependence between the creamery operating systems including but not limited to milk and whey silos, cheese vats, and cheese finishing tables.
  • Establishes, authors, reviews, and updates sanitation work instructions and ensures consistent and proper procedures are followed.
  • Performs equipment and CIP system inspections. Devises action plans, takes necessary corrective action, and follows up within a timely fashion.
  • Performs testing, interprets and records results for sanitation validation including but not limited to ATP testing, post-sanitation swabbing, and other Quality verifications/validations.
  • Performs Sanitation Audits to ensure compliance including but not limited to cleaning documentation, instructions, chemical strength, and titration checks.
  • Completes and verifies all documentation associated with essential job functions including reviewing
  • Maintains chemical inventory and places requisitions for sanitation chemicals and supplies.
  • Works closely with chemical vendors to ensure proper sanitation, monitoring, and maintenance of chemical equipment.
  • Coordinates with the Maintenance team for repair of sanitation and cheese making equipment.
  • Suggests schedule changes to facilitate extended sanitation events to supervisor.
  • Participates as a member of HACCP, Food Defense and Safety teams.
  • Optimizes manual and CIP sanitation to minimize chemical and water use.
  • Inspects, changes, rebuilds sanitation equipment including but not limited to pumps, valves, and hoses.
  • Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves sanitation issues.
  • Assists in manual cleaning in all areas of sanitation.
  • Provides support and is trained in other production areas as needed.
  • Immediately reports any food safety or quality issues to management or other individuals authorized to initiate action.

DIRECT REPORTS

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities, although this position is required to coordinate and direct the work of Team Members performing Sanitation and participates in the probationary and annual performance review process.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school degree or equivalent (GED), required.
  • An associate’s degree in food science, Dairy Science, or another related field is preferred.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in sanitation and/or food manufacturing required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working Familiarity with computer software systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and HMIs (Human Machine Interface).

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member regularly is required to stand, walk reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb or balance, talk and communicate with other Team Members. The Team Member must be able to regularly lift up to 65 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly exposed to a variety of weather conditions including outside weather, extreme, non-weather-related heat and extreme, non-weather-related cold. Furthermore, the Team Member will regularly work in confined and/or restrictive work areas and work with hazards which include moving mechanical parts on pumps or valves. They will also work with and handle chemicals as a part of this job. Ear protection is required.

Flexibility in Scheduling dependent on Sanitation Schedule. Occasional overtime may be required. Weekend Coverage required based on Plant Weekend Coverage Schedule.


TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member may be required to work with

a computer, calculator, fax, copier, chemical testing kits, thermometer, recording charts, CIP systems, pH meter, utensils, steam hose/water mixer and scale.


PPE REQUIRED

Personal protective equipment that is required when working with hazardous materials or loud equipment includes: safety goggles, Chemical gloves, lab coat and hearing protection. Other recommended PPE includes face shield, chemical resistant apron and steel toe shoes. See Chemical Hygiene Plan for details.
