**GENERAL PURPOSE**

## ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES**
- Perform repairs and maintenance on heavy trucks and equipment to minimize vehicle downtime and to provide for safe operation.
- Complete preventative maintenance schedules for all vehicles and mechanical equipment.
- Overhaul vehicle systems (e.g., hydraulics, climate control, axles, transmission, etc.).
- Make recommendations on outsourcing repairs based on cost and time efficiency.
- Provide emergency field assistance to disabled equipment as needed.
- Review work orders and refer to related repair manuals for references as necessary; process work orders per departmental guidelines.
- Install radio equipment and specialty lights in heavy trucks and equipment.
- Test repairs to ensure proper operation before vehicle is released.
- Perform minor body repair, touch up, and related work.
- Perform fabrication and welding duties as needed.
- Clean, pressure wash, and/or sandblast equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
High school diploma or G.E.D.
- 3 years of work experience as a heavy-duty truck/equipment mechanic in a full-service diesel shop.
- Have and maintain a valid Drivers License with a CDL-B endorsement (or ability to obtain endorsement within 3 months of hire), as well as meet eligibility requirements of acceptable driving standards as defined by the County.
- Must supply and maintain own tools. Minimum of:
