- Ensure proper operation of electrical systems by using tools, gauges, meters, and testing equipment
- Read, interpret, and follow blueprints and sketches to understand the specifications of a project
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, one-lines, wiring diagrams, and blueprints
- Strong electrical aptitude and attention to detail
- Figure material take-offs on drawings for required cut lengths
- Plan electrical system layout, installation, or repair per specifications
- Possesses a thorough understanding of AC or DC circuit operation and theory
- Read manufacturer documentation to determine how to install and integrate engine electrical, control, and communication systems
- Understands the function and install of marine electronics such as AIS, Radar, transponders, and transducers
- Can QC electrical schematics and effectively communicate issues to supervisor
- Basic understanding of proper wire and circuit protection sizing.
- Will be required to work aloft (on scaffold or on manlifts) and in confined spaces.
- On site training is provided.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment on vessels
- Troubleshoot electrical issues using diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters and multimeters
- Test circuits for voltage, continuity, and amp draw
- Properly connects isolation transformers
- Terminate cable connections.
- Understands network communication
- Pull/install wires and cables
- Connect Single Phase and Three Phase Motors
- Connect Single and Three Phase Transformers
- Can work with all voltages in AC Power Distribution up to 1000Volts
- Knows how to connect Generators, check phase rotation of Generator, and parallel Generators
- Knows how to change rotation on a three-phase motor
- Knows proper sizes of Motor Starters (NEMA Ratings)
- Install, terminate, and test high voltage cables, conductors, breakers, and transformers
- Execute grounding and bonding practices for high voltage installations
- Work around live equipment while adhering to lockout/tagout and arc flash safety protocols
- Give instructions to fitters to install cableways and other support outfitting
- Inspect all equipment daily
- Fit, build, and install cable penetrations
- Fit, build, and install cable raceways
- Follow all shipyard safety policies, including proper use of PPE, fire prevention, and confined space protocols.
- Assist in the training and development of junior electricians
- Collaborate and communicate with welders, metal fitters, pipefitters, electricians, and other trades as required to complete vessel construction or repair and to maintain efficient work flows
- Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced ship production environment
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Maintain a positive attitude toward customers and represent Saronic professionally
