What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool & Die Technician position at SARIS EQUIPMENT LLC?
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The primary function of this position is to build new tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and prototype parts safety, accurately, and efficiently, using the equipment available, including all bench and machine operations as well as CNC programmable machines. Repair and maintain existing tooling, dies, jigs, and fixtures including troubleshooting any issues.
SPECIFCIC DUTIES/ ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Build/machine new tooling, dies, jigs, and fixtures, and prototype parts as needed.
- Ensure tools and prototype parts are ready according to production schedule.
- Monitor production status of stamping dies.
- Monitor daily quality status of production tooling to ensure no defects.
- Sharpen and repair the existing tooling, stamping dies, jigs and fixtures in a timely manner.
- Troubleshoot tooling, jigs and fixtures.
- Ensure equipment breakdowns and downtime is addressed immediately.
- Update tool status and history logs.
- Drive quality improvement of tools based on quality and changeover times hits/hour.
- Complete daily, weekly and monthly maintenance on the Die Shop equipment.
- Clean and maintain proper shop edict in the die shop.
- Works safely and follows company policies and safety procedures.
- Perform other duties as required or requested
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2-3 years of experience in tool room operations
- Experience running manual and CNC mills and lathes, or equivalent equipment
- Knowledge of material types, hardness, surface finish, etc.
- Mechanical aptitude and good math skills
- Ability to work from drawings and 3D models
- Ability to use micrometers and calipers efficiently
- Ability to square stock efficiently and indicate fixtures straight
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Regular attendance
BENEFICIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of SolidWorks or related CAD programs
- Experience working with CAD/CAM software
- Experience building jigs and fixtures preferred
- Experience building and maintaining stamping and form dies
- Able to heat treat parts and materials to desired hardness
- Professional communication skills, written and verbal. preferred
- Highly organized and detail-oriented preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to move and use the arms and feet within full range of motion or otherwise be able to operate machine controls.
- Must be able to stand doing repetitive tasks on cement floors for most of the work day.
