About The Role

We’re looking for a dedicated Lab Support Specialist III to join our team and help us continue delivering the level of care our patients and families deserve. In this role, you’ll be a vital part of our clinical team, ensuring excellent service, collaboration, and patient outcomes in a fast-paced healthcare environment. In this role, you will serve as a leader and resource for colleagues. Performs Point of Care Testing. This position encompasses all duties included in the Laboratory Support Specialist I & II job titles (listed below).

What You’ll Do

  • Recognizes age-specific requirements including but not limited to determining a safe blood volume to be collected and choosing appropriate devices.
  • Maintains proficiency to work independently in services; In-house, outpatient collection station(s), Urgent Care/Emergency Department, Cardiac Cath Lab, and medical imaging.
  • Monitors patients for adverse reactions, which can include but are not limited to syncope, nerve damage, and hematoma formation.
  • Understands patient limitations for collection site including but not limited to post mastectomy and dialysis access.
  • Comprehends and follows standard and enhanced precautions guidelines regarding infectious disease.
  • Utilizes all safety devices according to guidelines and disposes appropriately.
  • Performs all phases of phlebotomy with a 95% success rate on neonate infant, children (1-7 years), adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Proficient to collect a high-quality specimen by determining the appropriate site for collection, as well as collect specimens in the correct order of draw, with appropriate equipment and skin preparation.
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail and the ability to accurately label specimen with the required identifiers.
  • Ensures specimens are maintained according to requirements, processes specimens and delivers specimens to the appropriate department.
  • Able to clearly provide information to technical staff through electronic communications regarding patient state, collection site, and resulting expectations to ensure results can be assessed accurately for interfering substances.
  • Greets and identifies patients appropriately using Press-Ganey customer defined scripting.
  • Effectively explains venipuncture procedure fully and makes patient feel at ease.
  • Provides feedback to leadership regarding service failure and patient concerns.
  • Makes, receives, and routes calls/messages regarding departmental matters in a professional and timely manner.
  • Provides outpatients with instructions for several types of specimen collections to be done at home or on-site.
  • Demonstrates a consistent commitment to patient‑centered service skills, creating interactions that foster trust, comfort, and clear communication in alignment with Press Ganey satisfaction standards.
  • Applies strong empathy, active‑listening, and service‑recovery skills to understand patient needs, address concerns promptly, and contribute to a positive care experience.
  • Uses professional awareness and emotional intelligence to anticipate patient expectations, support a respectful environment, and reinforce a culture of compassion and quality that drives high patient‑satisfaction outcomes.
  • Successful completion of Patient Service Center TSH class within 12 weeks. Certification or eligible with a recognized board of registry required within 1 year of hire. Successful completion of Patient Access TSH class within 12 weeks.
  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care in alignment with Saratoga Hospital values
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support health, healing, and service excellence
  • Perform clinical responsibilities with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Use hospital systems and tools to document care and support operations
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes and support patient and staff satisfaction
  • Serve as a positive, professional representative of our hospital and community

What You Bring

  • Highschool graduate or GED. 1 year of direct patient care and/or phlebotomy experience preferred. Completes a minimum of 8 hours of technical continuing education on an annual basis. Serves on 1 organizational committee.
