What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Technician/Mechanic position at Sarasota County Sheriff's Office?
Under the general supervision of the Fleet Supervisor, performs skilled mechanical work of considerable difficulty and responsibility related to the maintenance and repair of automotive and related mechanical equipment. Incumbents must possess sophisticated knowledge and skill in the performance of mechanical tasks involving general repair, maintenance and servicing of automotive and related equipment and are capable of exercising good judgement and individual initiative in handling routine work and special assignments. Work is reviewed through reports, records, and the actual performance of the automotive equipment. Incumbents may be responsible for supervising the work of subordinates. Additionally, the individual may serve as the alternate parts officer, working in the parts department in the absence of the primary parts officer; this duty requires the individual to be knowledgeable on automative parts and have basic computer skills. Performs other work assignments as directed.
Tasks: Complete assignment as directed; maintain work areas; knowledge of general orders; perform electrical repairs; repair brakes; repair air conditioning system; perform diagnostic engine analysis; outfit marked vehicles; fabricate and install cages in transport vans; perform preventative maintenance; and repair or replace malfunction part(s).

- 2 years' experience
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications. Agency requires ASE certification in Suspension and Steering, Brakes, and Heating and Air Conditioning. If an applicant does not possess these certifications, they have 120 days post-employment start date to complete. All applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of qualified work experience to be eligible to take the ASE certification examines.
