Primary care seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented AthenaOne Billing Specialist to join our dynamic healthcare team. Duties
- Prepare and submit medical claims for primary care services using Athenahealth’s billing platform, ensuring compliance with all coding standards including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications.
- Review and verify medical records, documentation, and coding accuracy to support claims and facilitate efficient reimbursement processes.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems to access patient information, update records, and ensure data integrity.
- Manage accounts receivable by following up on unpaid or denied claims through medical collection procedures while maintaining professional communication with payers and patients.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify documentation requirements and resolve billing discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and insurance policies to optimize billing accuracy.
- Generate detailed reports on billing activities, claim status, and collections to monitor performance metrics and identify areas for process improvement.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing within a primary care or outpatient setting, preferably using Athenaone or similar EMR billing systems. Motivated recent graduates are welcomed to apply but
- Strong understanding of medical coding including CPT, ICD-10, ICD coding practices, DRG classifications, and medical terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate EMR systems efficiently while maintaining high levels of accuracy in data entry and documentation review.
- Experience with medical collection procedures and managing accounts receivable effectively.
- Knowledge of insurance claim processes, payer requirements, and reimbursement protocols in a healthcare environment.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced setting while maintaining attention to detail.
- Prior experience working in a healthcare office environment is preferred but not required.
