What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Clerk II – Community Outreach Coordinator position at Saranac Clarksville District Library?
General Purpose: To plan and implement outreach services with community partners, maintain a positive relationship with our community members, and to follow the library's mission to foster life-long learning by providing resources and technology. This position requires staying current on up to date library practices and trends, the ability to work with all ages and community members, and attention to detail. This position requires circulation desk hours. The schedule of this position will be determined by the Library director.
Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the Director and Circulation Lead. Coordinates with the Program Department, Circulation Lead, and Director on library initiatives and marketing. This position requires the ability to work alone and make sound judgements on situations that may arise, referring to library policies and procedures.
Program Coordinator Duties:
- Fostering an environment that is inclusive to all
- Finding new ways to reach patrons who might not be able to attend programs
- Collaborates with individuals, groups, and organizations to expand library programming
- Attends and participates in community meetings and events
- Develops and fosters strong, positive, and mutually beneficial relationships that grow and deepen the library's connection to the community
- Coordinates, plans, and leads community outreach services and programs
- Participates in continuing education opportunities
- Promotes library services and resources
Circulation Duties:
- Serves the community by checking in and out library materials and issuing and updating library cards
- Provides reader advisory and reference services to patrons
- Answers telephone calls as well as emails, providing information and/or assists library users
- Catalogs new magazines and assists with processing new items for the collection
- Assess library owned items for damage and mends them as required
- Sorts, packs, unpacks, and processes materials being received and sent to other libraries
- Assists library users in making copies, sending faxes and scanning documents
- Collects money for copies, printing, fax, scanning, and billed material, when necessary
- Assists in maintaining library collections and facilities by straightening shelves, chairs, papers, magazines, dusting, emptying drop-box daily
- Maintains a clean library by providing end of the day cleaning including vacuuming, wiping down surfaces, including bathrooms, windows, doors and removing trash as well as cleaning up throughout the day
- Ensures current library policies and procedures are followed and enforces policies as necessary
- Helping with programs as needed
- Stays informed on library trends and technology, how it pertains to the library and is able to provide help to patrons needing general assistance
- Creating and maintaining material library displays
- Other duties as assigned
Desired Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma required, Associate's degree preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience working in a public library
- Some experience working in outreach is strongly preferred.
- Related experience working with children, teens, and working in a library preferred.
- Other combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.
Necessary Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Some knowledge or principles and practices of modern library systems and programs.
- Some knowledge of library circulation or processing techniques.
- Working knowledge of library classification systems, working knowledge of basic office procedures.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office, copy machine, fax machine, printer, telephone
- Ability to accurately maintain library filing systems, to orally communicate effectively, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, employees, supervisors and the general public.
- Ability to interact with the variety of patrons that come into the library for programming and make connections
- Works cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal

Pay: From $16.50 per hour
Expected hours: 24.0 per week
