DSP (Direct Support Professional)

SARAH Tuxis Residential Services is hiring Direct Support Professionals for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Guilford, CT and surrounding areas! Drivers license, vehicle, registration and insurance required!

Responsibilities

• Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, ensuring dignity and respect at all times
• Monitor residents’ health by taking vital signs, observing for changes, and reporting findings to healthcare professionals
• Support medication administration following HIPAA guidelines and care plans to ensure safety and compliance
• Prepare nutritious meals aligned with dietary restrictions and preferences, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen area
• Operate equipment such as Hoyer lifts and resident lifts to safely transfer individuals with mobility challenges
• Engage residents in social activities and community outings to promote mental stimulation and socialization
• Maintain detailed documentation of care provided, resident progress, and any incidents in accordance with privacy regulations

Requirements

• Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home & community care environments is highly preferred
• Knowledge of patient observation techniques, dementia care (including Alzheimer’s and memory care), and working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism
• Certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and HIPAA compliance are required or highly desirable ($100 sign on bonus available)
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and operate medical equipment like Hoyer lifts or patient monitors
• Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, residents, families, and healthcare providers
• Demonstrated patience, compassion, and a genuine desire to support individuals with disabilities or health challenges
• Flexibility to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, or overnight hours- a must !!
• Current CT Driver's License, vehicle valid registration and insurance
