Position Summary
As a Billing Specialist, you will work closely with our billing team to manage healthcare billing and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement from government and commercial payers. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in medical billing and collections and enjoys investigating and resolving complex reimbursement issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Submit initial and follow-up claims to third-party payers and self-pay guarantors through our electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Review, investigate, and resolve outstanding accounts receivable balances
- Analyze insurance denials and make necessary claim corrections for resubmission
- Conduct timely follow-up with insurance companies regarding unpaid or underpaid claims
- Respond to inquiries regarding billing statements and payment activity
- Identify billing trends, issues, and opportunities for process improvement
- Accurately post payments and adjustments on a daily basis
- Collaborate with team members to meet departmental cash flow and performance goals
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one year of hands-on experience in healthcare billing, collections, or accounts receivable
- Working knowledge of Medical Assistance, Managed Care, and commercial insurance billing requirements
- Experience with electronic billing systems and claims follow-up
- Knowledge of CPT-4, ICD-10, revenue codes, and UB-04/837I billing
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Preferred:
- Associate degree in a related field
- Behavioral health billing experience
- Strong accounts receivable follow-up and denial management experience
- Experience working within an EMR environment
Schedule
- Full-time, Monday-Friday; 7.5 hour work day, plus 30-minute unpaid lunch
