Job Title: The Visual Arts Pathways Coordinator

 

Department: Sapulpa High School 

 

Location: Sapulpa Public Schools

 

Reports To: Educational Pathways Director and High School Principal

 

Description: The Visual Arts pathway at Sapulpa High School will be a four-year program that encompasses many aspects and areas of the visual arts. Students who choose to go through this pathway will have the opportunity to make industry connections throughout this program. Students will be thoroughly aware of the possibilities and/or outcomes of this pathway following graduation. This is a high school teaching position that is also in charge of verifying and upgrading the high school's visual art course(s) content. 

 

Job Summary: The Visual Arts Pathways Coordinator at Sapulpa Public Schools plays a vital role in guiding and empowering students to make informed decisions about their future careers and educational paths within the visual arts field. This leadership position is responsible for implementing continued revisions of a comprehensive career development program, fostering partnerships with local businesses and educational institutions, and ensuring students have access to the resources and support they need to succeed in their chosen career pathways. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Refining and updating the visual arts curriculum and teaching courses within the visual arts pathway.
  • Oversee and conduct monthly team meetings with staff and administration.
  • Coordination and logistics of visual arts pathway program activities.
  • Research and stay up-to-date on industry trends, job market information, and education requirements to inform pathway development.
  • Work with the Pathways Director to establish and maintain partnerships with local businesses, industry associations, and colleges/universities to provide students with internships, job-shadowing opportunities, and dual enrollment programs.
  • Communicate with local businesses to arrange for meaningful field trips, including operations and professional speaking engagements.
  • Coordinate career fairs, guest speakers, and industry visits to expose students to various career possibilities.
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate career exploration and development into the academic curriculum.
  • Plan and execute open house activities to showcase the arts pathway collaborating with the performing arts coordinator.
  • Plan and execute 8th-grade visitation with the junior high and high school administrative staff and counselors.
  • Organize and manage the procedure for new incoming visual arts pathways students each academic year.
  • Ensure students are aware of and utilize relevant courses, extracurricular activities, and resources to prepare for their chosen career paths.
  • Assist in the annual development and management of a student leadership team.
  • Oversee and supervise the other visual arts pathways team members.
  • Provide other general department duties as needed.
  • Work with and collaborate with industry, and university stakeholders to ensure that Sapulpa High School’s classes are articulated and aligned with industry and university standards. 
  • Maintain accurate records and reports for program evaluation and compliance purposes.
  • Work with and collaborate with the performing arts pathway coordinator to ensure compatible approaches within the overall arts pathway.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Prior business experience with a strong preference for prior managerial (people and project leading) experience.
  • Candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with clear and capable verbal & written communication skills.

Education & Experience:

  • Strong time management, organizational, and administrative skills are needed.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related arts industry field, education, or similar experience.
  • Preference minimum of 10 years experience in an educational institution, in the industry, or teaching role and/or prior diverse industry environment role.
  • Knowledge of local labor market trends and post-secondary education opportunities.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

OTHER SKILLS/EXPECTATIONS:  Develops cooperative and functional relationships with district staff and the public; maintains consistent and punctual attendance; ensures job responsibilities are met competently and within established deadlines. Ability to develop and work with complex data spreadsheets.
