Job Title: Sr. Automation Controls Engineer – Onsite in Newark, CA with weekly travel to LoDi, CA.
1 year contract
Cepheid is upgrading their PLC’s from Windows 10 to 11 in 2 of their manufacturing sites which are Newark and LoDi (1.5 hours away from each other). The exact travel is a little bit TBD but the expectation is 3 days per week on-site in Newark and 2 days per week on-site in LoDi. There will be some form of reimbursement but that is one of things we are working with our legal team to understand how the candidate will be reimbursed. Also, there is potential for a night or two in a hotel when visiting LoDi depending on the amount of work needed/days spent in LoDi for the week.
Project Details:
The Sr. Automation Controls Engineer will work closely with the Automation Engineering team to upgrade PC-based systems running operating systems older than Windows 11. This role involves upgrading PCs to Windows 11 IoT LTSC, ensuring all corresponding applications are compatible with the new OS. Applications in scope include older versions of:
Rockwell FactoryTalk View ME Edition
Cognex Designer Vision-Pro (utilizing deep and edge learning technology)
Data acquisition systems
The Engineer will be responsible for upgrade, verification, and validation of systems to ensure functionality post-upgrade. Upgrades and testing will be performed at the main site, with deployment at the satellite site. Experience executing validation protocols in an FDA-regulated industry is required.
Must Have Skills:
7 years of relevant experience.
In-depth knowledge of PLC programming and development using Rockwell RSLogix 5000.
Expertise in HMIs utilizing FactoryTalk View ME Edition (Rev 7–14).
Strong knowledge of Cognex Designer Vision-Pro with deep and edge learning technology.
Experience with high-speed medical manufacturing equipment, motion control, servo systems, pneumatic actuators, and robotics.
Nice to Have:
Experience in FDA-regulated industrial automation.
Familiarity with SPEL and Epson programming.
Education/Certification Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
Day to day responsibilities:
Upgrade PC-based systems to Windows 11 IoT LTSC.
Ensure compatibility of applications, including Rockwell FactoryTalk View ME, Cognex Designer Vision-Pro, SPEL , Epson programming, and data acquisition systems.
Perform bench testing of upgrades before deployment; document findings in compliance with GMP.
Deploy upgraded systems in a manufacturing environment.
Execute Installation and Operational Qualification (IQ/OQ) protocols.
