Title: MDVT Engineer (Mechanical Design Validation Test)
Location: Santa Clara, CA- 2 days hybrid(Daily travel to external labs required)
Duration: 12 month contract (strong opportunity for conversion)-W2
Role Overview:
Arista Networks is seeking an MDVT Engineer to support mechanical design validation testing of networking and datacenter hardware. This role is a critical part of the product development lifecycle, ensuring mechanical designs are validated and stress-tested before release to customer sites. The role is highly hands-on and lab-focused, working closely with cross-functional engineering teams.
Target Candidate Profiles:
Mechanical Engineering degree with 2–3 years of experience in mechanical design and validation testing within networking, datacenter, or hardware-focused companies (Cisco, Juniper, Oracle, Tesla, NVIDIA, etc.) OR
Mechanical Engineering degree with strong internship experience at companies such as Meta, Google, Facebook, Tesla, NVIDIA (especially with liquid cooling or lab-based testing exposure)
Must-Have Skills:
2–3 years of professional experience in mechanical design and mechanical validation/testing (industry or lab setting)
Hands-on experience with dynamic mechanical tests (shock, vibration, acoustic, fixture testing, CAD-based validation)
Experience testing networking or datacenter hardware products
Comfortable working in lab environments and lifting 30–40 lbs (with assistance)
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Experience with liquid cooling systems
Mechanical design or validation of datacenter chassis
System-level understanding of fabric cards, line cards, switch cards
Experience with networking or datacenter products (Cisco, Extreme, Aruba, Meta/Facebook, etc.)
Exposure to NEBS testing
Fixture design experience (strong plus)
Familiarity with Pro-Engineer and DOE (Design of Experiments)
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Execute mechanical design validation testing (approximately 80% hands-on testing)
Travel daily to external test labs in the Bay Area
Participate on cross-functional product teams (HW, SW, NPIE, Manufacturing, PM)
Identify and resolve MDVT issues early in the development cycle
Develop, execute, and maintain mechanical test plans
Support new product development through NEBS qualification, mechanical characterization, and qualification testing
Perform hands-on testing using shock & vibration tables, acoustic testing, HALT, environmental chambers, and related equipment
Analyze test results, identify failure modes, and recommend corrective actions
Handle documentation and reporting (approximately 20%), including test reports, shipping coordination, and fixture design support
Review, edit, and release test reports
Continuously improve mechanical test processes and methodologies
