What are the responsibilities and job description for the Santiam Jr./Sr. High School Night Custodian position at Santiam Junior/Senior High School?
Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of custodial duties and general care of school building(s) and surrounding grounds to ensure a safe and clean school building for students, staff and community. Day shift during the school year; day shift during non-student days, holidays and summer. This position is eligible for health care benefits and PERS retirement.
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
- Cleans areas as assigned (i.e. rooms, halls, offices, restrooms, cafeteria, etc.), vacuums, shampoos, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, polishes, mops and buffs all types of floor surfaces.
- Washes windows, white boards, walls, doors and baseboards.
- Cleans and polishes furniture, windows, metal work and computer screens.
- Maintains indoor and outdoor lighting; changes light bulbs as necessary.
- Washes, scrubs and disinfects restrooms and locker rooms as well as cleans sinks, fixtures, panels and drinking fountains daily.
- Checks and stocks bathroom supplies.
- Cleans up spills (including bodily fluids) in safe and appropriate manner, picks up trash and responds to special requests for custodial services from staff members with supervisor approval.
- Sets up, takes down and moves tables, chairs, equipment, shelving and partitions for meetings, athletic events and other District needs as assigned.
- Picks up paper and other debris, empties and cleans trash receptacles.
- Waters plants, cleans planter boxes, and performs minor trimming and weeding.
- Rearranges and moves furnishings, transports and delivers educational supplies.
- Operates vacuums, floor machines, buffers and carpet cleaning equipment.

Works with the Superintendent and/or Facilities Director to coordinate different contractors within the building.

Paid on - call time for unexpected building emergencies.
- Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to a supervisor.
- Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
- Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
- Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Follows District procedure on opening and locking up the facilities.
- Attends work regularly and is punctual.
