POSITION TITLE: Instructional Assistant-Santiam Elementary School
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full Time, 7.5 hours per day, 4 days per week, 161 contract days with bene?ts as speci?ed in the Classi?ed Agreement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 18 years of age and possess high school diploma or equivalent required.
- Fulfill one of the following criteria:
- Compete two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
- Have an Associate’s degree or higher; or
- Successfully passed the Oregon Paraprofessional Exam.
- Successful prior experience working with children preferred.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Follow spoken and written instructions, policies, procedures, and directions to complete assigned duties accurately, safely, and in accordance with District expectations.
- Work effectively with students, staff, and administrators by demonstrating professionalism, cooperation, and a positive attitude in daily interactions.
- Support students during classroom lessons, small-group activities, and enrichment opportunities under the direction of licensed staff to promote student engagement and success.
- Help maintain a safe, positive, and respectful learning environment by modeling appropriate behavior, encouraging positive interactions, and addressing concerns as directed.
- Supervise students in non-classroom settings, such as the lunchroom, playground, hallways, and other assigned areas, to help ensure student safety and appropriate behavior.
- Help carry out school and District rules, procedures, and expectations by consistently reinforcing behavior standards and supporting student accountability.
- Follow all applicable laws, District policies, procedures, and directives from supervisors while performing assigned responsibilities.
- Maintain the confidentiality of student, staff, and District information and handle sensitive information in accordance with legal requirements and District guidelines.
- Keep all required certifications and training current and participate in professional learning opportunities as assigned.
- Demonstrate reliability through regular attendance, punctuality to work and to assignments, meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following established schedules.
- Build and maintain positive, respectful working relationships with students, coworkers, supervisors, and families to support a collaborative school environment.
- Represent the District in a professional manner by supporting its mission, vision, values, goals, and objectives through daily interactions and job performance.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor to support the needs of students, staff, schools, and the District.
