Business Development & Operations Manager

Optometry Clinic & Eyewear Business

Position Overview

We are seeking a Business Development & Operations Manager to help drive the growth of our optometry clinic and eyewear business in the United States.

This role will be responsible for identifying operational challenges, improving clinic performance, supporting post-acquisition integration, launching and expanding our eyewear business, and developing new business opportunities and partnerships.

This is not a traditional sales role. The ideal candidate will be someone who can work closely with management and clinic teams, understand both business strategy and day-to-day operations, and build scalable systems to support future growth.

Key Responsibilities

1. Drive Growth of the Optometry Clinic Business

  • Identify operational issues within clinic operations and execute improvement initiatives
  • Manage key performance indicators, including appointment volume, patient visits, exams, product sales, and patient satisfaction
  • Develop and improve staff workflows, role definitions, and evaluation systems
  • Standardize clinic-level operations and processes
  • Plan and execute marketing, patient acquisition, and sales promotion initiatives
  • Build an operating model that can support future multi-clinic expansion

2. Partnership and Operational Improvement

  • Lead operational integration, performance improvement, and profitability improvement for optometry clinics
  • Visualize, analyze, and improve existing business processes
  • Build staffing structures, role assignments, and reporting systems
  • Report progress, share key issues, and propose improvement actions to management
  • Analyze profitability at each clinic and execute improvement plans
  • Develop a repeatable operating structure that can support future expansion

3. Launch and Expand the Eyewear Business

  • Support the U.S. expansion of high-quality eyewear brands
  • Select products to be sold at company-owned clinics and manage purchasing/procurement activities
  • Manage import-related matters, vendor communication, and inventory control
  • Design pricing, sales methods, in-store displays, and customer purchase flows
  • Plan product knowledge and sales training for clinic staff
  • Improve product assortment based on sales data, inventory data, and customer needs
  • Explore future sales opportunities beyond company-owned clinics, including distribution and agency models

4. Business Development and Partnerships

  • Identify new business opportunities, potential partners, and sales channels
  • Build relationships with optometry clinics, eyewear brands, and external partners
  • Support the development of business plans, sales plans, and financial projections
  • Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and customer needs analysis
  • Organize information, perform analysis, and make proposals to support management decision-making
  • In the future, leverage data to analyze purchasing trends, forecast sales, and optimize inventory

Why This Role Is Attractive

  • You will be deeply involved in a growing optometry-related business in the U.S. from an early stage
  • You will gain cross-functional experience across clinic operations, business improvement, and eyewear business development
  • You will help bring high-quality Japanese eyewear brands to the U.S. market
  • You will work closely with management and be involved in both business strategy and hands-on execution
  • You will not simply operate an existing system; you will help build new systems and grow the business
  • As the business expands, there may be opportunities to take on broader responsibilities, including multi-location expansion and new sales channel development

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in business development, sales planning, corporate planning, business operations, retail/store operations, or operational improvement
  • Experience organizing and driving new businesses or undefined/early-stage operations
  • Ability to analyze issues based on data and execute improvement initiatives
  • Strong communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work hands-on with frontline teams and translate strategy into practical execution
  • Business-level English proficiency
  • Eligibility to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare, medical services, optometry, ophthalmology, or clinic operations
  • Experience in retail, store operations, franchise operations, or multi-location operations
  • Experience in eyewear, fashion, luxury goods, or consumer products
  • Experience with post-M&A integration, business integration, or operational turnaround
  • Experience in purchasing, importing, inventory management, or supply chain operations
  • Experience in marketing, CRM, or sales promotion
  • Experience with sales forecasting, demand forecasting, or inventory optimization based on data analysis
  • Experience working with Japanese companies or Japanese brands

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone who:

  • Can identify issues independently, develop solutions, and execute them to completion
  • Is more interested in building new systems and businesses than simply maintaining existing operations
  • Can think from both a management perspective and a frontline operational perspective
  • Enjoys working in a small, fast-changing environment
  • Can learn quickly and adapt, even without prior experience in this specific industry
  • Thinks about the business not only in terms of sales, but also profitability, operations, and customer experience
  • Is interested in expanding high-quality Japanese products and brands into the U.S. market
