What are the responsibilities and job description for the COMPUTER SUPPORT/NETWORK SPECIALIST position at Santa Rosa County?

- Supports and maintains computer systems including hardware, software, imaging and networking.
- Troubleshoots and repairs a variety of hardware and software platforms.
- Loads and tests new software on stand-alone computers.
- Operates in a multi-software environment.
- Maintains help desk documentation.
- Maintains databases of inventory, help desk, networking and data processing equipment.
- Assists in network troubleshooting including switches, routers and WAN technologies.
- Provides technical support to county network users.
- Provides assistance in the training of users on adopted software and hardware.
- Maintains accountability of network equipment.
- Monitors network performance and connectivity to ensure network availability and takes action to resolve downtime.
- Assists with daily backup of county computer systems.
- Assists with anti-virus software support.
- Assists with daily operation of the county email system, cybersecurity, firewalls and data servers.
- Interacts with the public in an effective and courteous manner.
- Must demonstrate commitment to our mission, vision, values and goals and represent the County in a professional, dignified manner at all times both in actions and appearance.
- May have a role in the County’s disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts, as designated in the County Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan; may be required to work before, during and/or after an emergency.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL, VISUAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
The physical requirements are that of medium work and include exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, kneeling, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items up to 50 pounds. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristic and abilities, such as above average agility or dexterity. Requires repetitive motion of the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Requires fingering to include picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling. Required to operate a motor vehicle to provide technical support at offsite locations.
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures. Transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. Requires the ability to differentiate between colors or shades of color.
Requires the expression or exchange of ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly. Requires perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make the discriminations in sound.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The working environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions and is nearly absent of potentially disagreeable elements, such as irate customers, outdoor weather conditions, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, odors, dust, etc. The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of network protocols and operating systems; computer operating systems and hardware; database entry and reporting; complex computer peripheral equipment such as scanners, USB devices, WAN and LAN devices, tablets and smart phones.
Required to operate a personal computer and word processing, spreadsheet and/or database programs. Required to recognize problem symptoms and determine appropriate repair actions; operate test and repair equipment.
Required to conduct functional, environmental and operational tests to evaluate performance and reliability of computer systems; setup test equipment and software to troubleshoot computers; load complex application software; work from service manuals to make repairs to computer equipment; understand and follow complex oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees.Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or closely related field; supplemented by two (2) years of software or hardware computer support experience in a commercial environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be computer literate. Experience with Windows based computers or servers – version Windows 7 or later is required. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:
Requires a valid driver license at the date of hire and maintain said license while employed in this position. A , Network , Security , or MCP certifications preferred.
