Located in the scenic, sea-side communities of Santa Monica and Malibu, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is a preK-12 school district serving approximately 8,835 students. Lincoln Middle School has earned the Gold School designation in 2015 and is one of nine schools recognized as a California Distinguished School. The others are: Franklin, Grant, McKinley, Roosevelt, Will Rogers, and Webster Elementary Schools, and Malibu and Santa Monica high schools. The SMMUSD Mission Statement, Extraordinary achievement for all students while simultaneously closing the achievement gap, guides the work of the Excellence through Equity plan that includes the following three priorities: All graduates are ready for college and careers; English learners will become proficient in English while engaging in a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum and all students engage in schools that are safe, well-maintained and family-friendly. Students attending Santa Monica High School and Malibu High School have a graduation rate of about 95%, with the majority of students moving forward with post-secondary education options. Job Summary

Job Summary

SMMUSD is seeking to hire an innovative and creative Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher in the area of film and media production. The ideal candidate for the CTE teaching position has industry experience and connections to integrate in the classroom. This candidate will be responsible for all instruction, grading, attendance and management of students in classes. The CTE teacher should understand how to implement project-based learning, differentiate instruction, and facilitate small group and/or independent projects. In addition, the teacher should have knowledge of equipment and programs used for media production and editing. Example of Duties • Teach beginning/Intermediate Film/Media Production course aligned to CTE standards. • Teach advanced Film/Media Production course aligned to CTE standards. • Develop and create lessons for students to learn film and media production. • Embed into the classroom experience industry applications of concepts. • Oversee use of media production and editing equipment. • Engage industry professionals to enhance classroom teaching and learning • Incorporate project-based learning into the classroom setting.

Requirements / Qualifications

Possession of a valid CTE teaching credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license; insurability by the District’s liability insurance carrier. Knowledge of: • Film and media production industry • CTE Standards
