BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, serve as liaison between school, district departments and parents; communicate with parents and provide a variety of information related to school attendance, school and district programs, activities, and events; translate materials and information in a designated second language; interpret at district and site meetings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as liaison between school and parents; Promote parent involvement in school activities Explain program/Consolidated Project materials and goals to parents; Develop channels of communication between the school, family, and relevant community agencies Maintain communication with parents by telephone, mail and home visits Provide information related to students' progress, attendance and school events, activities and programs Serve as interpreter for program/project-related duties Translate written materials Assist non-English speaking students during enrollment Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other meetings as assigned Assist office staff with a variety of clerical duties as assigned Maintain files and records of assigned programs Provide school staff with information obtained from home contacts and visits Attend a variety of meetings related to program activities Monitor student attendance at all school sites Follow up where needed, make home visits to obtain signatures for certificates of eligibility for the assigned program Operate a variety of office equipment including computer terminal, copier and typewriter Provide translating services for teachers and staff as assigned; perform related duties as assigned. Provide additional support and coverage, as needed, for the District receptionist’s position and area. Other duties as assigned related to the position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and bilingual, multicultural, and biliterate background in designated language.
License's and Other Requirements:
Valid California driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of community resource organizations including various federal, State and County agencies; Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment; Knowledge of school enrollment documents and procedures; Knowledge of district and school program guidelines and regulations governing programs Knowledge of student data systems Knowledge of recordkeeping techniques; Knowledge of oral and written communication skills in a second language; Knowledge of interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; Knowledge of telephone techniques and etiquette. Ability to work independently on multifaceted projects for district wide parent events and initiatives. Ability to perform consecutive interpretation or simultaneous interpretation for large or small groups (such as SSC, ELAC, DELAC, LCAP) with use of interpretation equipment or via virtual meeting platforms (Zoom) Ability to facilitate and coordinate communication with parents for events Ability to perform liaison duties between school and parents; Ability to conduct interviews for the purpose of providing and obtaining information; Ability to speak, read, and write a designated second language as assigned; Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action Ability to maintain records and prepare reports Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
