Duties
- Manage and oversee all aspects of accounting functions including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing.
- Lead the preparation of comprehensive financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring clarity and accuracy for stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and accounting standards such as GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), and specific regulations pertinent to non-profit and governmental accounting.
- Conduct detailed financial analysis and account reconciliation to identify discrepancies, optimize cost control measures, and support strategic decision-making.
- Oversee the financial close process, including month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring timely completion with precise accuracy.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure regulatory compliance in all financial operations.
- Manage the finance team by providing leadership in technical accounting issues, fostering professional development, and promoting a collaborative work environment.
- Utilize advanced financial software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms for efficient data analysis, reporting, and forecasting.
- Coordinate treasury management activities including cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and investment strategies to maximize liquidity.
- Support regulatory reporting processes by preparing documentation required for audits or external reviews while maintaining transparency in all financial dealings.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance requirements, and governmental or non-profit accounting standards.
- Strong expertise in financial concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, balance sheet reconciliation, and general ledger management.
- Proficiency in financial software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero or similar tools for data analysis and reporting purposes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage accounting teams effectively while fostering professional growth within the finance department.
- Skilled in cash management strategies—including treasury management—and forecasting to ensure organizational liquidity.
- Excellent financial report writing skills with the ability to analyze complex data sets using Excel or other analytical tools for insights into financial performance.
- Experience with regulatory compliance accounting processes relevant to public sector or non-profit organizations.
- Strong technical accounting skills related to cost accounting analysis, regulatory reporting requirements, and international accounting standards where applicable.
- Ability to perform detailed account analysis and account reconciliation processes efficiently while maintaining high accuracy standards.
- Knowledge of payroll systems along with accounts payable/receivable workflows to streamline operational efficiency.
