Santa Fe South Middle School is Santa Fe South’s original and largest middle school, serving students in grades 6–8. Located in a beautifully reimagined space at Crossroads Mall, the school reflects Santa Fe South’s commitment to innovation, community, and opportunity.

In recent years, Santa Fe South Middle School has made significant gains in both academic growth and proficiency, driven by a collective commitment from staff and leaders to excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The school earned a full letter-grade increase on the state report card and is currently rated a B school. Team collaboration is strong, expectations are high, and there is a shared focus on helping all students grow academically and personally.

Position Summary

The Student Support Liaison provides direct support to students experiencing behavioral, attendance, engagement, or other barriers to academic success. Working under the direction of the Dean of Students and school administration, the liaison builds positive relationships with students, reinforces schoolwide expectations, provides structured interventions, supports restorative practices, and helps students successfully remain in or return to the learning environment.

The Student Support Liaison also supports student supervision, attendance and behavior documentation, campus transitions, family communication, and other activities that contribute to a safe, positive, and productive learning environment. This is a paraprofessional-level position that does not exercise independent administrative or disciplinary authority.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Support and Engagement

• Build positive, respectful relationships with students while maintaining clear and consistent expectations.
• Identify and respond to behavioral, attendance, engagement, and other barriers that may interfere with student learning.
• Provide structured check-ins, redirection, and other assigned supports to help students remain engaged in school and instruction.
• Support students in developing responsible decision-making, self-management, conflict-resolution, and relationship-building skills.
• Reinforce schoolwide expectations for behavior, attendance, punctuality, and student conduct.
• Help students reflect on their choices, understand their impact, and identify more productive responses.
• Encourage students to take responsibility for their actions and repair harm when appropriate.
• Serve as a consistent and supportive adult presence for students who need additional guidance, encouragement, or intervention.
• Communicate with families, as directed, regarding student needs, progress, attendance, or assigned supports.

Behavioral Interventions and Restorative Practices

• Assist the Dean of Students with implementing the school’s behavior-support procedures, interventions, and restorative practices.
• Meet with students regarding minor behavioral concerns and provide redirection consistent with school expectations.
• Facilitate restorative conversations, reflection activities, conflict-resolution processes, and reentry supports under the direction of the Dean.
• Help students successfully return to classroom instruction following behavioral incidents or time outside the classroom.
• Monitor students participating in structured reflection, alternative learning spaces, or other assigned interventions.
• Assist with gathering information related to student incidents and accurately document relevant details.
• Track assigned interventions and communicate student progress or recurring concerns to the appropriate staff members.
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding student behavior, disciplinary matters, educational records, and family information.
• Refer serious, repeated, or sensitive concerns to the Dean of Students or school administration.

Attendance and Access to Learning

• Support schoolwide efforts to improve student attendance, punctuality, and engagement.
• Conduct assigned student check-ins and follow up with students experiencing repeated absences or tardiness.
• Help students identify and address barriers that prevent them from attending class consistently or participating successfully.
• Communicate relevant attendance or engagement concerns to the Dean, counselors, teachers, administrators, and families as directed.
• Maintain accurate documentation of attendance interventions, student contacts, and follow-up activities.
• Support students during transitions to reduce lost instructional time and promote timely arrival to class.

Student Supervision and School Support

• Provide active student supervision during arrival, dismissal, passing periods, lunch, assemblies, and other assigned times.
• Help maintain safe, orderly, and efficient student transitions throughout the school day.
• Respond promptly to requests for student support across the campus.
• Maintain accurate records related to student behavior, attendance, interventions, and assigned supports.
• Communicate professionally with teachers, staff members, students, and families.
• Collaborate with the Dean, counselors, teachers, and administrators to support individual students and the overall learning environment.
• Assist with school events and emergency procedures as assigned.
• Perform other duties consistent with the purpose of the position and the school’s approved student-support program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• College degree not required.
• Experience working with middle school students, adolescents, or youth is preferred.
• Ability to build strong relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries and consistent expectations.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, organization, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and student-centered in challenging situations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
• Willingness to receive feedback, follow established procedures, and work collaboratively as part of a school team.
• Ability to use basic technology and maintain accurate electronic or written documentation.
• Must meet all applicable requirements for employment with Santa Fe South Charter Schools.

Physical and Work Requirements

• Ability to move throughout the campus and actively supervise students in classrooms, hallways, common areas, and outdoor spaces.
• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and respond promptly to student or campus needs.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced school environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.

Contract and Compensation

• 195-day contract.
• Compensation is based on the Santa Fe South Charter Schools paraprofessional pay scale. Because this position has a longer contract than many paraprofessional roles, total annual compensation reflects the additional contract days.
• Benefits are provided in accordance with district policy and applicable eligibility requirements.
