Hills Elementary is one of Santa Fe South’s longest-standing elementary campuses, opening during the 2015–2016 school year as the network’s second elementary school. Position Summary

Santa Fe South Hills Elementary is seeking an energetic, student-centered Physical Education Paraprofessional to help provide engaging, structured, and developmentally appropriate physical education experiences for elementary students.

Working collaboratively under the direction of the Hills Elementary PE Teacher, the PE Paraprofessional will primarily support and lead physical education instruction for students in grades 2–5, while the PE Teacher focuses primarily on early childhood and primary grades. The PE Teacher and PE Paraprofessional will work together to plan instruction, establish consistent expectations, and create a cohesive PE program across the school.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, values physical activity and wellness, and can confidently lead groups of students in an active learning environment. Successful candidates will bring energy, organization, strong classroom management, and a commitment to creating a PE experience where students build skills, confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.

Key Responsibilities

Physical Education Instruction

• Lead and support physical education lessons and activities, primarily for students in grades 2–5
• Provide engaging, age-appropriate instruction focused on movement, physical fitness, sportsmanship, teamwork, coordination, and skill development
• Clearly teach and reinforce expectations, rules, routines, and safe practices for physical activities
• Modify activities and provide appropriate support so students with varying abilities and skill levels can participate successfully
• Encourage active participation while creating an environment where students feel safe taking risks, learning new skills, and challenging themselves
• Model enthusiasm for physical activity, healthy habits, teamwork, and good sportsmanship

Planning & Collaboration

• Plan collaboratively with the Hills Elementary PE Teacher to ensure a cohesive physical education program across grade levels
• Implement lessons, activities, and instructional plans under the direction of the PE Teacher
• Prepare equipment, materials, and activity spaces for daily instruction
• Communicate regularly with the PE Teacher and school leadership regarding student needs, instructional plans, equipment, and program needs
• Participate in professional learning, team meetings, and other collaborative opportunities as appropriate

Student Management & Safety

• Establish and maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive environment during physical education classes
• Actively supervise students during physical activities and transitions
• Teach and consistently reinforce safe use of equipment and appropriate behavior during games, exercises, and other activities
• Use positive behavior supports and clear expectations to promote student engagement and responsible participation
• Respond appropriately to minor injuries, student needs, or safety concerns and follow school procedures for reporting and seeking additional assistance
• Maintain awareness of student medical, physical, or developmental needs that may affect participation, as communicated by appropriate school staff

PE Program & School Support

• Set up, organize, inventory, and properly store physical education equipment and materials
• Help maintain clean, organized, and safe instructional spaces
• Assist with schoolwide activities, field days, special events, recess, arrival, dismissal, or other student supervision responsibilities as assigned
• Contribute positively to the culture of Hills Elementary and Santa Fe South Charter Schools
• Build positive relationships with students and help make physical education an engaging and joyful part of their school experience

Qualifications

• A strong belief in the potential of every student
• Enthusiasm for working with elementary-aged children and promoting physical activity and wellness
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to confidently lead and manage groups of students in an active environment
• Ability to work collaboratively and follow the direction of the PE Teacher and school leadership
• Positive, patient, energetic, and flexible approach to working with students
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage equipment, materials, and multiple classes throughout the school day
• Previous experience working with children, coaching youth sports, leading recreational programs, or working in an educational setting is preferred but not required
• Knowledge or experience related to physical education, athletics, fitness, or youth development is preferred
• Ability to speak Spanish is highly preferred but not required

Paraprofessional Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Meets one of the following requirements:
• Completion of at least 48 college credit hours
• Possession of an associate's degree or higher
• Successful completion of the Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET)
• Passing score of 455 or higher on the Praxis ParaPro Assessment
• Achievement of a Bronze level or higher on the WorkKeys Assessment

Physical Abilities

Because this position involves active participation in physical education activities, candidates must be able to:

• Stand, walk, bend, and move actively for extended periods throughout the school day
• Demonstrate and participate in age-appropriate physical activities as needed
• Move and set up physical education equipment and materials
• Work in both indoor and outdoor environments
• Lift up to 25 pounds unassisted
