Position Summary
The ELL Paraprofessional supports multilingual learners by assisting classroom teachers and the ELL Teacher in delivering high-quality instruction that promotes English language development and academic success. Working under the direction of the ELL Teacher and campus leadership, this position provides targeted support through small-group instruction, classroom assistance, language reinforcement, and individualized student support.
The ideal candidate is passionate about serving multilingual learners, values strong relationships with students and families, and is committed to helping every child build confidence while developing English language proficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Support classroom teachers and the ELL Teacher in implementing instructional activities for multilingual learners
- Provide small-group and one-on-one academic support focused on English language acquisition and grade-level content
- Reinforce vocabulary, academic language, phonics, reading, writing, and foundational literacy skills introduced during classroom instruction
- Assist students in understanding assignments, directions, classroom routines, and expectations
- Support classroom management and student engagement while fostering a positive, structured learning environment
- Help prepare instructional materials, learning resources, and classroom activities
- Assist with translation and interpretation, when appropriate, to support communication with students and families
- Build positive, encouraging relationships that help students develop confidence both academically and socially
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and sensitive information
- Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers, the ELL Teacher, intervention staff, and campus leadership regarding student progress and instructional needs
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the ELL Teacher or campus administration
Qualifications
Required
Must meet OSDE Tier 1 Paraprofessional Credential requirements by meeting one of the following:
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester hours), or
- Associate's degree (or higher), or
- Passing score on the WorkKeys Assessment (Bronze or higher) or ParaPro Assessment (455 or higher)
- Fluency in both spoken and written English and Spanish
- Strong alignment with Santa Fe South's mission and commitment to serving the south Oklahoma City community
Preferred
- Experience working with English Language Learners or multilingual students
- Experience working in an elementary school setting
- Knowledge of early literacy instruction and language development
- Experience supporting diverse or high-need student populations
