Description
Library Services is seeking an outgoing, reliable, and service-oriented graduate student to support library operations during evenings and weekends. In this role, you will assist with opening the library on Saturdays and Sundays and closing it each day from Sunday through Saturday, according to a rotating schedule. As part of the Client Services team, you will ensure the smooth functioning of the library’s public spaces by performing key opening and closing duties, including unlocking doors, checking equipment, and addressing facility needs. In the absence of regular staff, you will serve as the primary library representative during your scheduled shifts. You will also work at the Information Desk, assisting patrons with a variety of services, helping them navigate library resources, directing patrons to applicable library policies, and providing high-quality customer service both in-person and via phone or email.

Examples of Duties
- Assisting patrons at the Information Desk with checking materials in and out using the library’s automated circulation system
- Sorting and organizing library materials for re-shelving
- Providing basic directional assistance and guiding patrons to resources
- Supporting users with WEPA (Wireless Enabled Public Access) printing and answering related questions
- Redirecting phone calls and inquiries to the appropriate library or campus departments
- Accurately recording statistical and usage data
- Maintaining the confidentiality of patron information in accordance with library policy
- Assisting patrons during emergencies (e.g., severe weather, power outages, etc.)
- Reporting facility, safety, or service concerns to the Client Services Manager.
Typical Qualifications
- Must be a current UCM graduate student.
- Must be available to work evenings, late nights, and weekends
- Customer service experience and prior library experience are preferred
- Familiarity with the Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification systems preferred
- Candidate must be able to manipulate full book trucks and large books up to 40 lbs.
