Vet Care Coordinator, Felines & Friends
POSITION SUMMARY
FELINES & FRIENDS is dedicated to rescuing and placing cats in need of a second chance; working towards zero pet overpopulation by facilitating low-cost spay/neuter; and improving the lives of both companion animals and their owners through on-going education. We also own and operate Santa Fe Cats, a cat boarding facility which is dedicated to providing family cats a safe boarding and daycare environment staffed with trained caretakers. We are looking for a dedicated individual to join our team to serve as Foster Coordinator.
Under the direction and training of the Felines and Friends Operations Manager, the Vet Care Coordinator will coordinate the veterinary exams, spay/neuter appointments, and respond to health concerns of cats in foster homes as well as any locations where our cats are housed.
The Vet Care Coordinator will also assist with or handle intake exams and procedures of cats being accepted by Felines & Friends.
This is not a 9-5 “desk job”. The successful candidate will have a flexible schedule and be available to address concerns with foster cats either via text or in person, including at night and on weekends if necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct in person assessment of cats reported sick to determine if vet care is required.
- Schedule vet appointments
- Schedule spay/neuter appointments
- Follow up with vets regarding recommended care
- Train and provide support to foster families with cats requiring medications, including sub-q fluids, antibiotics, etc.
- Ensure required medicines are provided to a foster home in a timely manner.
- Ensure medicines are being administered correctly at Santa Fe Cats
- Ensure quarantine protocols are being followed at Santa Fe Cats
- Work with the Foster Coordinator to track foster cat welfare and coordinate spay and neuter appointments, give or arrange vaccinations.
- Coordinate with Operations Manager on ordering and delivering medicines.
- Maintain inventory of medicines and order as needed in consultation with the Operations Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma and two (2) years of experience in a customer service role.
- Excellent customer relation skills.
- Two or more (2 ) years of experience in an animal welfare related field, including direct experience handling domestic cats.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.
DESIRED SKILLS
- Prior vet clinic or shelter experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The offer of this position requires compliance with the following:
- Employee must be able to pass a drug and background check.
- Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of OSHA, New Mexico and Santa Fe County.
- Employee must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license by employment date and maintain a valid NM driver’s license while employed in this position.
- Employee must have a road-worthy, reliable and insured vehicle.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Duties are generally performed indoors at worker’s home, foster homes, adoption locations, or Santa Fe Cats.
- All staff and volunteers may be exposed to aggressive cats, animal bites, disease, odors, animal dander, animal byproducts and chemicals.
- The Vet Care Coordinator will perform duties alone and as part of a team and must support a cooperative and collegial working environment.
- All Felines & Friends locations are smoke, vape, alcohol and drug free.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS
- Equipment used in performing duties includes, but is not limited to computer, telephone and general office equipment, animal vaccination, handling and sanitation equipment and supplies, and other materials as needed.
- Tracking and inventory forms, logs and documentation, equipment, and other materials related to the operations of Felines and Friends.
COMPENSATION
This non-exempt, part-time equivalent position offers a starting pay rate of $20.00 per hour.
