What are the responsibilities and job description for the Funeral Attendant position at Santa Cruz Memorial?
We are searching for a compassionate funeral attendant, working under the supervision of an experienced funeral director to help grieving families give their loved ones a final goodbye that is dignified and respectful. You will work with a small team to prepare and conduct funeral services, and help bereaved families during these ceremonies. You should be comfortable working directly with clients and family members of the deceased. If you want to help people in a time of need, this may be the job for you.
To be successful in this position, you should be comfortable working around the deceased. Top applicants should have explicit knowledge of cultural funeral practices and should be able to coordinate intricate, laborious tasks with accuracy.
Funeral Attendant Responsibilities:
- Provide transportation for clients and their loved ones to and from the coroner, hospital/nursing homes, funeral home and cemetery.
- Prepare the Funeral Home by cleaning, setting up lights and arranging flowers and setting up chairs and other seating for viewings and services.
- Assist guests as they arrive at funeral events by directing parking, greeting them, and leading them to the chapel or cemetery area.
- Answer questions and offer assistance to clients in coordination with the funeral director to help arrange funeral services.
- Work with a team to prepare the Funeral Home and burial sites with personalized items as requested by clients.
- Clean, store and move funeral equipment as needed to set up and clean up after funeral services.
- Answer phone calls and set up meetings for the funeral director, answer general questions about the Funeral Home, cemetery and services offered and assist director(s) with making legal and other administrative arrangements for scheduled funerals.
Funeral Attendant Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of two years of experience, do not apply if you do not have funeral experience.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Understanding religious, cultural, and custom burial practices.
- Ability to lift at least 75 pounds.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays and to be on call.
- Attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrates empathy and exceptional customer service skills.
- Outstanding problem-solving skills.
We have full time and part time positions available. This position is excellent for retirees and veteran's.

Pay: $22.00 - $23.00 per hour
