Description Of Duties/Essential Functions
Under direction, develops and adjudicates disability cases under the provisions of Title II and Title XVI of the Social Security Act. Conducts reconsiderations, beneficiary reviews (Continuing Disability Reviews), reconsideration of cessations (pre-hearings) and other complex cases referred by the SSA field offices, Administrative Law Judges, Office of Disability, Program Centers, Court Remands, etc. Functions with wide latitude of independence in developing these claims and establishing logical priorities to satisfy the stringent requirements established by federal regulations.
Minimum Requirements
Requires Bachelors degree with major course work in medical, premedical, prelegal, personnel administration, business management, sociology, education, communications, political science or a related field and two years progressively responsible experience in adjudication; comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology; of the Social Security laws as they relate to adjudication of disability; of federal and state laws on disclosure; the ability to evaluate complex technical, legal and statistical data; to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with any component of the medical, legal, service fields, or governmental entities; must have previously developed sensitivity to people with disabilities to make effective contacts without confusion or alarming clients. Requires knowledge and basic understanding of the use of personal computers; requires keyboard skills.
