Job Title:Education Technology Specialist

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Education Technology or site administrator, within a broad framework of standard policies and procedures; performs a wide variety of technical duties relating to the application of technology to classroom learning; provides hardware and software technical guidance and support to students and staff at school sites using independent judgement and initiative.

Examples of Duties

Coordinates, monitors and resolves problems relating to classroom use of microcomputer networks, hardware, software and peripheral equipment; installs and/or assists in the installation and configuration of local area network equipment and programs; responds to and resolves local area network problems; performs a wide variety of technical duties involved in providing personal computer hardware and software support; performs or arranges for maintenance and technical repairs to microcomputers and peripheral equipment; identifies and resolves microcomputer related problems; plans, organizes and prioritizes assigned tasks; provides instruction, direction and technical support in the proper use of network computers, peripheral equipment and software to site and district staff as assigned; solves computer, printer, monitor, modem and multimedia equipment problems; analyzes operating problems; determines and performs corrective action; tests new software to ensure effective performance with hardware; tests and researches new products and determines ability to fulfill user needs; tests curriculum components to ensure hardware and software compatibility with stated outcomes; installs and relocates computer hardware, software and peripherals at program site; performs clerical duties in support of the position using a variety of personal computer programs including database, spreadsheet, word processing and multimedia applications; participates in available workshops and training in order to meet new technology standards; performs other duties as required.

Employment Standards

Training and Experience: Any combination of experience and training which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed herein.
Completion of the 12th grade or equivalent; two years of college with major coursework in computer technology (local area network, data processing, telecommunications) or related field and two years of experience operating computer input systems or four years of experience in a microcomputer environment. Bilingualism may be required.

Knowledge: Knowledge of the principles and techniques applied to the operation of microcomputers, peripheral equipment and microcomputer networks; microcomputer hardware and software; practices, procedures, documentation and causes of microcomputer user downtime; routine maintenance methods and procedures; proper office methods, practices and procedures.

Abilities: Ability to analyze data and situation, reason logically, draw sound conclusions and develop effective solutions to system problems; determine origin of microcomputer malfunctions and resolve them; perform general repair on microcomputer and related hardware and software; install, configure and network microcomputer equipment; communicate effectively in both oral and written form; perform mathematical calculations; work independently; interpret rules and regulations; exercise good judgement, flexibility, creativity and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs; meet the physical requirements necessary to perform the job; establish and maintain co-operative relationships with those contacted during the performance of required duties, including school personnel, students, parents and the community; maintain regular attendance.

Physical Effort/Work Environment: Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines; ability to conduct verbal conversation; hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels); sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk; sit for sustained periods of time; climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps and ladders; lift up to 50 or more pounds; carry up to 50 or more pounds; exhibit a full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotation, shoulder abduction and adduction, elbow flexion and extension, shoulder extension and flexion, back lateral flexion, hip flexion and extension and knee flexion; operate office machines and equipment in a safe and effective manner; demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to perform general repairs on equipment, and/or operate computer and peripheral equipment; work in an indoor environment with routine computer noise.

Licenses and Certificates: A valid Class C California Driver's License and evidence of eligibility for insurance and valid First Aid and CPR Certificate may be required.
