What are the responsibilities and job description for the Janitor position at Santa Barbara Humane?
Santa Barbara Humane in Santa Maria is hiring a janitor on a part-time, up to 20 hours a week basis. This is a seasonal/temporary job expected to last through July, 2025. Hours are flexible, preferably 2- 3 hours a day, five days a week.
Position Summary:
Maintain the cleanliness of public common areas and restrooms at Santa Barbara Humane, Santa Maria Campus (1687 West Stowell Rd) and Dog Training Center (1517 Stowell Center Plaza).
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in common areas of the building.
Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms.
Sweep, mop offices.
Empty trash and recycling bins.
Clean windows and dust/wipe down surfaces.
Ensure exterior common areas are free of litter and debris.
Report facility maintenance or supply needs.
Follow workplace safety protocols, working in a safe manner at all times and proactively ensure the safety of co-workers, clients, and volunteers by taking immediate action to prevent or address safety concerns.
Keep supervisor apprised of concerns.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of various cleaning techniques and equipment, using different cleaning chemicals, and understanding sanitation and disinfection procedures.
The ability to lift and move items, and to perform repetitive tasks like sweeping, mopping, and dusting.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and complete cleaning duties within specified schedules.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Walking, standing, bending and twisting of neck, bending and twisting of waist, squatting, simple grasping, reaching above and below shoulder level. Using hands to perform cleaning tasks. Lifting and carrying 50 pounds without assistance for short distances.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals and animal dander.
